Some think it's possible on a sharply reduced budget to bring a social worker to the scene to talk a serial killer or gang-artist down from the ledge.

NYC murders up 41%, shootings up 100%.

In July, after a “Defund the Police” protest became a full-blown occupation outside City Hall, the city shifted $1 billion out of the police budget by moving school security functions back to the city’s school system, cutting overtime and eliminating a nearly 1,200-person recruiting class.
But we have people here claiming that crime is only up a little bit and questioning if the defunding happened.

Oh well, the local population is getting what they voted for. This is on them.

The OP is not talking about domestic violence which can happen anywhere. Instead he is pointing out how gang violence (much of it illegal aliens) is exploding like never before, at least not since the time when black gangs (who were mortal enemies) needed to band together to survive against the brown gangs.
As hardcore as the "Bloods" & the "Crips" were, against gangs like MS-13, they stood little chance.

Additionally, another aspect the OP is likely pointing out is how the police are handcuffed from doing pro-active policing, which helps to prevent some of the violence and murders. Obviously domestic violence in the home cannot be thwarted by pro-active policing, but gang violence can.

Thanks to Obama and the leftist politicians who have created the Ferguson Effect, less police are getting involved with stopping crime, and only responding to calls. Who can blame them when they have seen false narratives ruin fellow officers careers and lives.

Let it burn.

I can't leave California soon enough. Stupid Covid shutdowns have kept me in CA or I would already have moved last summer. Yes, I know I could move "sight unseen", but I really want to at least scout the cities I am considering. That is the entire reason that brought me to City Data in the first place -- laying groundwork for my retirement move to the east coast this year (2020). Next summer will have to do.
Ben Shapiro sums it up pretty accurately;

I agree with that, but he is not talking about arresting violent criminals, he's talking about stop and frisk which was a horrible policy. Giuliani boasted that it reduced crime, well the truth is the crime rate did drop, by just about the same amount that it was dropping all over the US.
