I disagree. Division and dissention have been part of America's history. America nearly destroyed itself in the Civil War, and it nearly happened again during the 1960s. China doesn't have to destroy the USA from within. That has nearly happened on its own a few times. The riots we had in 2020, riots have been occurring in America from day one.

Personally as I get older I just get more and more tired of the really stupid. We live in an era with a wealth of information at our fingertips (assuming you can remove yourself from your echo chamber).
Most of the hate is spewed online. In person, there is a real risk of getting your jaw jacked when pushing your views on another in a heated manner. I am pretty moderate/centrist, but my more liberal friends are far less forgiving of opposing views than my conservative friends. You would think it would be the opposite in theory.

As a moderate/centrist, pre-Trump, the right was worse to those who disagreed with them. After the 2016 election, it seemed to have flipped.

The idea of the melting pot, if it really rang true, we would not have had "Little Italy" or "Poletown" or intense racial segregation. If we had a true melting pot we would not have had race riots in this country's history.

To be honest, many countries have a history of racial violence. The USA isn't alone in this. As for the USA, racial harmony has never been a thing. Racial hatred has been around from day one.
