On the bright side, he can now claim disability.

In her mind it is all the school's fault. She is a loser and is a member of a class of people that will never take any responsibility for anything.

Did anyone watch/listen to the video, the woman is a complete idiot and blames everyone but herself. What she doesn't realize is it all starts at home.

Dr. Ben Carson, who did brain surgeries on children, grew up in gov't housing, WITHOUT a father around, said the only reason he, and his brother, became successful was because his MOTHER made sure he worked hard in school to get an education!

The school system authorities just care about having the right-looking statistics and push kids through from one grade to the next despite the fact these teenagers are almost literally illiterate.

There are cases elsewhere where the failures of students, parents, and schools to produce successful students are not this drastic. But when kids don't learn much during 4 years of high school, how can they expected to compete at the university level with fellow high school graduates who DID study, who DID learn, who DID get good grades? And how could affirmative action possibly solve this issue?
In MD state testing not a SINGLE student from "inner city" schools passed the math proficiency test, AGAIN!

That's the Democratic platform in a nutshell: blame everyone but yourself

You don't get decades of social regression by holding yourself accountable, you do it by blaming someone else.

Let me guess, she mentioned something about the "legacy of slavery" that inhibits her from being a good parent. I wonder what prosperous African immigrants think about this culture of self-victimization.

Dr Carson is at the top of the "Talented Tenth" group, and is certainly an exception. This kid's mom could have nagged him and dragged him to school every day but the outcome would be about the same.

Now you know why teachers are banning parents from monitoring their classes over Zoom during Covid.

IIRC, she would badger him to do his homework, and then pretend to check it to keep him in line, even though she was pretty much illiterate.

It's a shame that every such person doesn't have parents who muster that level of intent when faced with very limited resources.
