A school system that railroads a young man to "passing grades." But the rhetoric, here, is that it's all the parent's fault.
Welcome to City-Data!
A parent must be pro-active and monitor their child's progress and the effectiveness of the teachers and the school administrators on an ongoing basis.
No excuse!
If it is a bad school, then there should be vouchers to attend another school.
At the very least, the student should read at home and the parent should periodically quiz the child when the child is relatively young and give tests to the child in each subject - at home!
As the child becomes older, they will understand that the parent value education and subsequently the child begins to value education.
But, the problem is that the child's peers and other adults in the community may not value education.
Hence, the need for more affordable housing that is dispersed.

Whose kid is it? Ever hear of trust but verify? I dont know who you think is responsible for that kid, but mommy dearest damned sure turned a blind eye to it. That school absolutely sucks, but that kids parents failed them miserably. How can a kid only be passing 3 classes and the parents never know?
And we can all thank Federal funding / meddling in schools.
Frankly, public funded education is a total mess.
Those indirectly paying for it (property owners / tax payers) are rarely the same people whose children are attending public school.
With a disconnect like that, who wouldn't game the system?
Make all schools charge tuition. And unruly students should be expelled - with no refunds. THAT should get the attention of the parents. Put the bite on their wallets.
Cannot see how this has anything to do with Affirmative Action. Further, the largest beneficiaries of Affirmative Action are not African Americans. Originally, the intent of Affirmative Action was to remedy the effects of 235 years of slavery and over 100 years of Jim Crow as it relates to former slaves and descendants of former slaves.
Under-educated and mis-educated young people are an issue that impacts the entire community - not just the immediate family.
There will be collateral consequences for all of us.
At the very least, the public tax dollars will be spent (or wasted) either on juvenile detention, jails, food in jails, recreation in jails, increase in crime, robberies, etc. etc.
Note, the student was in the top half of his class! Simply means that a group of students had an even worse cumulative gpa.
Changes need to be implemented and policies need to change immediately!
Parents need to be held accountable!
Parents should be fined and/or called out for neglecting their duties!
It has everything to do with affirmative action. This was supposedly a good school and this kid clearly didn't belong. I wonder why he was there? Why were parents never involved, why didn't the teachers take notice and spend extra time with the kid?

Of course they don't realize because there's two types of liberals, the ones so rich that tax doesn't matter and the ones who pay no taxes.
The ones that pay no taxes cry the most, because muh entitlement and “work is for suckers”. Sadly, they pass that on down the line.
