I think it would be more accurate to say that they'd like to put one-way locks on the border. Plenty of Canadians came to America pre-COVID, especially in the winter. (Gee, I wonder why?)
Plenty is what I hear.
Actual numbers...haven't seen any.
Anecdotal experience.
None of my snowbird friends travelled this winter.
With rates that are set on a whim, Canada is not worth the gamble.
They are not set on a whim. You know the price when you book.
If you are referring to that ONE story of a woman who went to Portugal, it was her
lack of planning and understanding how it all worked, that caused her surprise.
The facts are, that approximately 50,000 to 62,000 Canadians receive some form of healthcare outside of Canada a year.
This is outside of Canada, not necessarily the US, but safe to say that the majority may be. Those numbers for example would included going to Europe, as one friend did for experimental cancer treatment not available in Canada. Unfortunately in her case it did no good.
It also includes snowbirds who are on travel health insurance and say break a leg and need treatment. This type of insurance does not cover someone saying, " hey, while I'm in California, I'll have that heart operation" since no travel insurance covers non-emergency care.
In other words, they would pay out of pocket.
It also makes NO sense for a Canadian with a serious illness, to go to the US for care. Beside having to pay full price, they would also have to pay for accommodation , travel, on an ongoing basis. Many health issues are ongoing. It's not just a one stop shop, you have follow up appointments, test etc.
Why on earth would a Canadian put themselves through that, when at home you get all that without extra cost.
Don't believe the lies that people don't get good care in Canada. It is a lie.
Sigh
My wording was unclear. We mostly agree. 86% of Canadians would say no to US style health insurance.
That being said I like the Dutch, German or Swiss model more.
You must not be a traveller, or know Canada very well.
Not a fan of cold. What's a traveller? If that some French stuff? Been there enough to know no thanks, all yours. Do love your beer though. Oh, and your women. Love those. Most strikingly attractive women I've ever met were Canucks.
May do another hunt up there so I will bring some dollars over.
