I completely agree. I think it's just being intellectually honest for Black communities not to feel like they were a part of the first Independence Day, because they weren't. And we don't have to feel threatened by that.
Completely fake holiday, nobody even talked about or heard about it until last year.
That's on you for being ignorant about it. I for one will gladly enjoy my day off work because of this HOLIDAY celebrating people being free. Besides it's summer time anyway. Let people relax...
I'm seeing a movement on social media for Black communities to celebrate Juneteenth in a fashion similar to July 4th - barbecues, fireworks, parties at the lake.
And stay home July 4th.
There's some push back to that idea - everyone likes a fireworks show, and everyone likes a barbecue on Independence Day. So there are many who say I don't want to forego enjoying myself that day, as well as Juneteenth.
We'll see if this takes hold.
Everyone I know wants to celebrate both.

Same thing was said last year but this is mostly a psyop to cause more division amongst people, and there are low IQ people who eat it up. It's not something most people will do (doing nothing on 7/4).

It's not Low IQ to recognize history, and acknowledge that Black communities didn't get independence in 1776. That's educated people who realize that. People who are willing to stop and listen and consider.
It's not a "psyop". It's reality. And if many in the Black community choose to move forward and celebrate the US from the Civil Rights Act on forward, and celebrate July 4th and American Independence, that's ABSOLUTELY fine. With everyone.
But it's important to also listen to the voices who say I don't think this is my holiday. My ancestors didn't benefit from this, or even participate.
Like people who had horrible mothers, we're not forcing them to celebrate mother's day. It doesn't cost us anything to listen to divergent voices and experiences.
I see that my insurance company sent out a message saying it will be closed in observation of "Juneteenth." Schools are having end of the year "Juneteenth" celebrations. Is this happening a lot in other areas? I don't have anything against the idea of Juneteenth, but why are we making up new holidays and cancelling traditional ones like Columbus Day?

This is pure BS and an excuse to blame others for place in life.
