Homeless in Phoenix? Where you can cook to death on the sidewalk?
They know where to go and how to beat the heat, just like in Vegas.
One thing I saw in a Vegas park was people taking advantage of the storm drainage system to get out of the sun and underground. Would also think there are other places like the basements of abandoned buildings etc.
Homelessness is a nation wide problem. There are those in certain political spectrum who convinced themselves it's only happening in Democratic area, it's not.
It's a combination of poor mental health care, our drug problem, federal government cutting affordable housing, the cities becoming more unaffordable, and a general lack of services for people who need help.
I recently encountered someone who is probably days away from homelessness. She's mentally ill, her family cut her off, she has no money, no job, and is squatting in a motel in a sketchy area unable to pay and buying time until she is thrown out. Aside from the homeless shelter, there is no government program that can help her get a roof over her head without waiting an exorbitant amount of time. If she goes to a shelter, she risks being attacked, raped, and/or her stuff stolen; and it's assuming there is a spot for her there.
This is just sad.
.
If someone is destitute, don't they qualify for basic welfare?
Although qualifying, and getting a mentally I'll person to help themselves are two drastically different things. And it doesn't really solve the problem anyway, unfortunately.

Those types of places are probably the most dangerous places anyone can go, besides urban ghettos.

She might qualify for food stamps, although I don't know too much on how it works beyond that. I do know getting her own place to live is a much harder challenge. I have low income tenants who waited 10 years to get on Section 8 and many who tried to apply for low-income housing and getting denied year after year.
But she is so far gone that she doesn't seem to realize her dire situation - keeps insisting she has a rich Dad living overseas who will pay for everything.
There are vast stretches of Phoenix that are nothing more than a third world barrio. Parts of Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Glendale, Avondale, Tolleson, etc, are places I would not dare try to live in.
I’m really thankful the state of Arizona allows us to be armed, because you need to be ready for anything when you go into these places.
But whenever I write posts like these in the Phoenix forum, people get offended for some odd reason. Truth hurts?
It’s always the same counter argument with these people, which is, “Well, Phoenix isn’t as bad as Detroit or Baltimore.”
More Dead Bodies are showing up around the Hotels where Transients, drug dealers and the Homeless hang out
The other day the Phoenix Police let a dead body rot in the Sun for 4 hours uncovered in the bushes in 115-degree heat while waiting for the Coroner. The Desk Clerk says "oh this happens all the time "
Shootings every day as people's brains slowly atrophy. I have never seen a City as Crazy as Phoenix and cavalier about human life as Phoenix.
So it's a fairly typical American city with a higher rate of crime, right?

As if that’s gonna make us all feel better.
The Phoenix forum doesn't allow conversations about the homeless. The liberals go insane until the thread is shutdown.
What would you say are the worst parts of Tempe? Areas around Mill?
I bought a workbench off craigslist last year, and I've lived in Tempe 9 years, the sale took me to a little pocket that was a total ghetto. I saw the guys little apartment. I couldn't believe this was in Tempe. He said theft and crime was terrible.
The place was a total hellhole and it was still like a thousand plus a month, little one bedroom. Guy had moved here from out of state. Was moving back.

St. Louis murder rate is 8 times that of Phoenix so yeah, I feel much safer in Phoenix than anywhere in St. Louis, Baltimore, DC, Chicago, New Orleans, Atlanta....because that is the truth. Now zero crime would be better but good luck achieving that.

So you are upset that the police did not destroy the evidence that might be used to find the cause of death?
