When I consider a pet I think about the years of commitment that I will definitely provide. When I took my last dog I'm not a young chicken anymore and I had to think I have to stay healthy in order to take care of this dog daily. She is now 10 years old and I know she has led a good life. I made sure she got exercise she was fed everyday. I won't even board her when I go on vacation. .I always had food for her. She never went without her shots and she's got plenty of love. I would say she's quite spoiled. It is disheartening that people don't think of those things. They are flesh and blood too. Some people actually think a dog can be discarded as if they're discardable which I don't believe they are or should be.
Yep.
I think dogs inspire humans to be better people, and I also think if someone has missed out on having the right relationship with the right dog before leaving this life, then that person has really missed out on having a wonderful experience/facet that is all it’s own in life.
This is so sad. But, I knew it would happen. This is very similar to when people adopted Dalmatians after the movie “101 Dalmatians” appeared. Like the rest of you, I could never, I mean NEVER surrender our two dogs and cat. They are seniors like us and we have decided these are our last pets except for perhaps fostering. We may even adopt smaller mammals like hamsters or guinea pugs whose life spans are less.
The older I get, the more I am disgusted with people. I am guessing that our disposable society now includes family pets. I am glad that I am in good company on this forum. Bless you for caring.
Well, I don't dislike cats. My main issue with them is I'm unfortunately allergic to about half of them. Some send me into sneezing fits and some don't.
There is actually a stray cat here in Florida who has decided to make me his pet. He started out meowing outside my apartment door one day for about 5 hours straight. He then ran into my apartment the next morning when I went to work. Took me about ten minutes to capture him and escort him back outside. He didn't give up, though. He continues to hang out outside my apartment and even lays on top of my car waiting for me to leave in the morning.
So my hard heart is weakening for this cat because he has been so persistent. If I name him that's going to be the end of it and I'll take him in.

I find that people who like cats and dislike cats often cite the same thing: their independent nature. some like it, some don't.

I don't have pet allergies, but I do have something else.
My thinking is different. Whenever I see stray dogs or stray cats, I get scared. I wonder what kind of diseases said animals might have. I also consider that said cat or dog might have some other issues. I'm not a fan of dogs in the first place. Seeing a stray I think "said dog might attack me". And I've been in someone's home where a cat was present. Dander all over the place.
One of the reasons I won't get a cat is because of how much effort it takes just to keep a place clean. And then there are the vet appointments, food, etc. Not worth it for me. My home is a pet-free zone. No animals. And I don't plan on getting a pet anytime soon.

This cat is pretty much a dog, he loves being petted. I can't believe he's a stray because he is so well groomed. This has been going on for almost 3 months now though, so I'm sure he is a stray.
