Excuse me! You don’t know me, You have zero idea of my experience with Canadians, do I believe they are all like the few I experience? No I don’t, just always heard they were all super nice and polite and I may have only met the very few that weren’t. One of them was my friends father.
Why not? Canada is a highly attractive nation. And Canadians are certainly a helluva lot more likable than folks down here. That’s not even debatable.
Not from where I'm sitting. Most Canadians I've met have a drinking or drug problem(or are coming off of one) and act like they are better than everyone else.
What does California having more people than Canada have to do with the topic? Bangladesh has way more people than Switzerland too.
Regarding the poor, I guess this has to do with the fact that it's easier for uneducated people to get employed in the US. In Canada it's almost impossible to get a job being illegal.
the relevance ...
California - more specifically Silicon Valley - is the tech hub of North America. Toronto, which is larger than San Fran/SV is growing faster but has fewer tech workers than SF/SV.
Less relevant, but you make the point - CA has an extraordinarily higher number of illegals and non-literate people than CA.
WHY does Canada, or any country, allow certain highly-skilled people into the country? Out of the goodness of their heart? To work government programs to create "information and knowledge" for the national good?
Or because employers (businesses) need employees capable of doing these jobs?
I agree we don't want businesses operating unfettered writing the laws. But that's supposed to be the politicians' job. To consult with expert sources (including businesses) and govern appropriately. I'm not saying either party does it very well.
I mean, as one entirely apolitical thing - what in hell are we doing relying on "paper-based systems" instead of digital?
Canada is too cold and limited. So. Tiny in population for its size. Good luck to them, but if you want diversity and superiority you live in the US. We have it all including better weather. Canada is a cute little place though. Cold. Brrrrrr.
The problem with the H1-B visa program is that it's become corrupted. Employers were firing American workers and replacing them with H1-B contract workers. The program was never intended to be used in that way. It was sold as being a temporary visa program. Everybody was freaking out over Y2K and how lots of tech workers would need to be hired to fix that problem. Also, the fees paid by visa applicants were supposed to be put into a fund to train more American IT workers.
I won't go into more detail as to not further derail this thread. However, IMO, it's long past time to end the H1-B visa.
that doesn't derail the thread at all. I'd say it's critical to the thread.
We have no idea, from information provided so far, how many qualified STEM grads there are annually in the US, and how many in Canada.
We don't know if US HB-1's earn the same wages as Americans, or the Canadian immigrants earn the same as similarly-qualified Canadians.

Apparently these immigrants leaving the US for Canada disagree.
Ever heard of innocent until proven guilty? Trump was never accused or convicted of "knowingly" hiring illegal aliens in a court of law but you have the final say? He had no past conviction of "knowingly" having illegal aliens working for him either.
