I have to wonder had Trump not so stupidly made this agreement, would Biden have taken the initiative? Doubt it, as everyone around him would have told him complete withdrawal from Afghanistan was disastrous policy. Which history will prove in very short order.
It's already been stated, but bears repeating: Joe Biden saw fit to reverse every other policy made by Trump; what made this one an exception? Nothing was stopping him, so...?

Stick to the topic of the thread, John. Focus on the events of the past week. That's the discussion the rest of us were having. Otherwise, start a thread asking your question and I'm sure people will chime in.

Indeed, and as I've repeatedly said upthread, I can't figure it out. al-Qaeda threat remains. Biden said last Oct. 2019 he would keep a small force in Afghanistan similar to Iraq - why so hellbent on a pullout is the question? What changed his mind?

Did he, b/c of Doha, believe there was already so much erosion to Afghan govt and military, it couldn't be reversed? I doubt that, b/c his own military told him not to consider a withdrawal until year-end, if then. Military has always been opposed to leaving Afghanistan.

Withdrawal is monumental policy disaster for the US and the world, making everyone less safe. I was talking to a few Biden voters yesterday who agree with this assessment and universally say with his experience he has no excuse for not understanding the issues, we should have stayed in Afghanistan, and that 20 years is now down the drain.

He should have torn up Trump's Doha agreement. The consequences of not reversing Trump policy are on Biden.

Apparently you do not see the scope of the danger Biden has caused with his surrender to a terrorist group.

He must be made to pay for the damages he has done, and for those in the future, as a result of his actions in Afghanistan.
This is not a game of monopoly being played here, it is serious business, and he has put the United States in danger of being attacked on our homeland , possibly on a scale much more devastating than what happened on 9/11.

The president is a civilian. He can't be court martialed.

In theory yes (and actually, Constitutionally), but not practice.

The troops seem very mad about this. Rightfully so. I wonder what would happen if they encircled the white house in protest and demanded Biden resign.
