China is moving in quickly. What did they promise Biden or Milley for the botched exist that killed 13 American troops and drone killing of Afghan children?

Would you care to explain why these 13 people are so much more important to you than the 1,000 people a DAY dying from Covid? At this point over 650,000 dead Americans?

It appears you are not familiar with the total number of US military deaths in Afghanistan, I suggest you research it. And then move to Iraq. And then do check the civilian casualties. Let us know what you discover.

Who says they're more important? These are two separate issues. You cannot combine them into one, and you don't have to pick or choose. Both can be important.

I don't like the results of our departure either, it's painful to watch but it was inevitable, we are not all powerful and it's not worth wasting American lives on these fruitless incompetent ventures into foreign countries.
Maybe we should have been a little less dainty in rooting out the Taliban? When we believed in ourselves we weren't at all fastidious about mopping up the Japanese warlords, and even did some real damage to Nazi infrastructure.

We weren't going to destroy the Taliban with 3,500 soldiers not in a country that size. People that think Afghanistan was stable after the peace agreement live in a dream wold.

Quote:
UNITED NATIONS -- Taliban insurgents show no sign of reducing the level of violence in Afghanistan to facilitate peace negotiations with the government, and appear to be trying to strengthen their military position as leverage, with the “unprecedented violence" of 2020 carrying into 2021, U.N. experts said in a new report circulated Friday.

The panel of experts said the Taliban are reported to be responsible for the great majority of assassinations that have become a feature of the violence in Afghanistan, targeting government officials, women, human rights defenders and journalists among others. These attacks “appear to be undertaken with the objective of weakening the capacity of the government and intimidating civil society,”it said.

We should have surged forces to an appropriate level, destroyed the Taliban and left. If they or a reasonable facsimile came back, hit 'em again. Rinse, wash, repeat. Germany and Japan, after the false starts of WWI and 1905 got the hint.

Yes, agree. Instead, Biden showed the Taliban that the United States is weak and will cower in fear at their feet of Islamic terrorists.

Or worse, in Biden/Obama's case agrees with their narrative and world view. I would not be surprised at the rate we're going to see the U.S. de-recognize Israel and move the embassy from Jerusalem to Ramallah.

We had 500,000 troops in Vietnam at the peak, probably take more than that in Afghanistan since it is 4 times the size and that would mean a draft. The US is not invincible, it can't conquer nations wherever it chooses. I doubt anyone is ready to sacrifice their lives to defeat the Taliban.
