So, 19 years later, Trump signed a deal handing control of Afghanistan over to a terrorist group.
The United States spent all of these years over there supporting the people and the government of Afghanistan – preventing the country from being taken over by terrorist groups. Instead of negotiating the withdrawal with the government of Afghanistan, Trump and Pompeo signed an "easy" deal that gave control of the country to said terrorists early in 2020.
There wasn’t much that the Biden administration could do with Trump's deal. What would have been the end result if the new administration attempted to throw out Trump's deal with the Taliban and re-negotiate a new deal with the government of Afghanistan?
No matter how you try to spin it, history will show that Trump and Pompeo are responsible for any far reaching consequences related to the withdrawal – both now and in the future.

LOL…. History will show Biden is at fault, so the blame Trump group is in the minority. The agreement could of been cancelled at anytime had peace talks fallen through, which they did. The Taliban broke the agreement but Biden decided to keep the agreement in place. He wanted to be President, so all decisions are on him. Nice try though.
That's not the point. But since you like analogies, I'll give you one.
You can no more blame a shipbuilder for a captain hitting an iceburg than you can blame Trump for Biden's botched exit. A ship builder just provides the framework. He doesn't tell you where to navigate to.
As analogies go, that was pretty good.
Trump's plan was not to destroy the Afghan military's ability to function, abandon Bagram and billions in military equipment, and then surrender to the Taliban, all before withdrawing from Afghanistan.

Even after the deal was signed, even after Biden took office, Afghanistan was relatively stable. The deal worked. When Biden set a date, closed military facilities, and pulled out troops unconditionally AND did this during fighting season, the Taliban swept in. Mind you that the May 'Trump' deadline was at the end of the winter non fighting season.
It's amazing how liberals don't see how Biden messed this one up.
Biden had not yet crippled the Afghan military in May, so yeah, we could have had a peaceful evacuation.
The government and military dissolved within days after they knew we are leaving, I don't care who was president it was going to be chaos.
Afghanistan was never stable even before Trump signed the peace agreement, after the agreement the Taliban steadily took up even larger parts of the country. The only place remotely secure was Bagram and Kabul but even the capital was subject to bombings.
There was never ever going to be a peaceful evacuation without a government or military.

Actually they were somewhat stable. They were able to have a taste of what freedom was, girls/women to go to school and run for office.

If it was only stable because an outside country was propping it up, it wasn't stable.

Yes in Kabul and very few other places, OT was not accepted throughout the country.
