Lessening the symptoms isn't the same thing as immunity.
But that's the whole concept behind the Left's obsession with the vaccine.
They act as if vaccinations will stop the spread.....
It won't.

Immunity: "the ability of an organism to resist a particular infection or toxin by the action of specific antibodies or sensitized white blood cells."
People who have been vaccinated have these specific antibodies and white blood cells. But immunity is not a Yes or No situation. Some people will have a higher level of antibodies than others. Some people will have antibodies that bind tighter to the spike protein. People who are vaccinated will be less likely to contract and spread the virus. If they do get infected, they will be better able to fight it off.
No vaccine is 100% effective. So some vaccinated people might still catch and spread the virus. Some might still get sick or even die. But vaccination will
greatly reduce the spread of Covid-19.
We can see this already if you compare states with high vaccination rates to those with low rates. Take Maryland and Missouri, for example. they have similar populations (~6M). 60% of people in MD have been fully vaxxed, compared to 43% in MO. Missouri is running about 4200 new cases per day, compared to only 1000 per day in Maryland. Florida is seeing 25,000 new cases per day, which is twice the rate of California even though CA has almost twice the population.
