The US military confirmed Thursday that a large explosion occurred outside the Kabul airport in Afghanistan, as the US-led airlift of thousands continued inside the compound.
"We can confirm an explosion outside Kabul airport. Casualties are unclear at this time. We will provide additional details when we can," said Pentagon Spokesman John Kirby.
US and allied officials have said they had intelligence that suicide bombers were threatening to attack the airport.
Fox reports suicide bomber. No news on casualties other than thousands of people were at gate
Blood on walkaway joes hands. We should have never surrendered air bases around country
Surprised it didn't happen sooner. This is so messed up and all because 'the president' was trying to check a box for his leftist progressive bucket list. This was a drawn down and/or withdrawal that should've been done over a year at least.
The British government had warned people about this credible threat some hours ago. It's astounding to me that it still occurred given the operatives that must be in the area.
That's why the USA military was being so careful with its American citizens traveling to the airport. So many of you were angry with this administraqtion for not encouraging Americans to get to the airport.
Thank goodness they listened to the intelligence and the military.....
Not sure if many of you realize but late yesterday the USA military were telling all Americans NOT to come near the airport. They were proactive. Hopefully people listened.
2nd explosion just confirmed at hotel housing (or was housing) Americans!
