Any opinions of the Stones not singing this song anymore live?
Yes I do have an opinion. I am a life long Stones fan. I am seeing them in Tampa on October 29th for the 11th time and now I really don't even care if I do. I loved them as the bad boys of the 60's and 70's and now they are the woke boys.
There are a lot of old classic rock songs that are extremely problematic to the young people of today. I could give hundreds of examples. But I don’t care, I will keep listening.
Man, I miss the freedom of the old days. If I knew they were gonna take it away, I would’ve appreciated it more, but I thought it would last forever so I took it all for granted.
I’m a guy in my 50’s and life was just better back then. How miserable that must be as a teenager or in your 20’s spending your whole day looking at your phone? Man, we lived! We experienced life. It’s not possible that the average youngster of today is having more fun than I did when I was that age.
Music was a big part of it, too. The music of today is mostly awful.
I’ve always loved that song, but gotta admit, I was shocked that they ever got away with those lyrics in the first place. It’s just kinda creepy to rock out about slavery and rape.
But then again, they also wrote Sympathy for the Devil.
So some of you old folks assume that the Rolling Stones audience is mainly 'young people of today'.
You haven't been to a Stones concert have you?
LOL.
Nothing to suggest audiences demanded that the Stones cut the song.
Could be they decided it was political/controversial and it could be that they were changing up their set list of hits.
There doesn't seem to have been any great public outcry about the song or campaign to have it removed from their set list.
It does appear Mick said it was dropped because they had dont it for years and they chose other songs.
It does appear Keith says it was political/controversial.
Could be it was both...hey what about Brown Sugar -- meh -- let's drop it and do something different -- it's kind of controversial.
Oh okay.
Then out on tour -- OMG ROLLING STONES DROPPED BROWN SUGAR....THESE KIDS TODAY ......SO SENSITIVE.....lol.
Brown Sugar gone but W.A.P still going strong. I hate people.
The Stones don't sing W.A.P.
It's that simple.
The Stones chose to cut the song. There was no public outcry.
