From what I read, Brandon used the term more than once, not just to address the league itself.

What you read has been deliberately given punctuation and capitalization not justified by what was said, and how Biden said it. If, instead of merely reading about the statement, you actually listen to what Biden said, the falsity of this punctuation becomes clear. It is obvious that Biden started to say "the great Negro league pitcher", but then not wanting to overlook Paige's work in the Major Leagues, changed the sentence halfway through to "at the time, pitcher in the Negro league, went on to become a great pitcher in the pros, in Major League Baseball, after Jackie Robinson, his name was Satchel Paige.

If you want to punctuate that fairly rambling sentence for transcription, it would be much more honest to write it as "the attitude of the great Negro ... at the time ... pitcher in the Negro league, went on to become a great pitcher in the pros, in Major League Baseball, after Jackie Robinson, his name was Satchel Paige." Transcribing with those capitals as "the Great Negro at the time", to create a title that is a sort of human equivalent to Linus's "Great Pumpkin", is blatantly dishonest.

Well, that's exactly what he said. He let it slip out but fixed it up ASAP.

It seems pretty clear that he was referring to him as a Negro League pitcher and not just "that Negro" as the provided quotes would have you believe.

There's so many more racist things Biden has said and done, this feels like manufactured anger.

I’ve watched it ten times. Biden’s racist inner self just can’t keep quiet. All head to do was read offa the teleprompter, he couldn’t do it. So he spoke his truth. He’s always been a racist.
