https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/polit...eek/ar-AARzDfT ( rogressives in Congress are lining up behind a bill that would shrink a regular week of work from 40 hours to 32 — bringing the four-day work week to America.

The Congressional Progressive Caucus just endorsed the aptly named "32-Hour Workweek Act," according to a statement from Rep. Mark Takano, the Democrat representing California's 41st district. The caucus, comprised of nearly 100 legislators, is a key progressive voice and has made its power known during recent infrastructure negotiations) MY OP what a bunch of morons )

I'm not usually supportive of Progressive agendas, but this may be one idea I can get behind.

Can you PP's share your reasons for thinking it's a bad idea? I'm genuinely curious.

As a cheapskate minimalist I have to say that would be sweet, but it would exacerbate the labor shortage. 4 shift rotation shifts like mine depend on 4 people each working 42 hours a week to take care of the 168 hours that encompass a week. Either we would have built in overtime or have to have a 5th crew of people.

I have to admit I'd enjoy that....but it's not practical either... They could just ban compulsory overtime instead. I'd be happy as hell if I only ever had to work my scheduled hours and that's it... Perhaps not very practical either.

It was the boomers choice to work 60 hours a week. Part of the reason we are falling behind is my generation and younger don't want to do it anymore. In Europe they work less less and play less...I don't need a motorhome, boat, 4 cars, etc...

So they think it would be a GOOD thing for all working Americans to take a 20% pay cut? Because that would be the end result here.

It'll never pass.

Despite the hard-press sell that democrats hate making money, here's a shocker: THEY DO. And they make a LOT of money.

In fact the majority of the top 10 wealthiest Americans are FALL TO THE FLOOR GASPING IN SHOCK ...

DEMOCRATS.

They would never in a billion years agree to anything that will cost them-- and their friends -- profit.

Off the top of my head:

Add to inflation because businesses will have to hire more people or pay more overtime to get the same work done.

For those who rely on 40 hours wages they may have a harder time surviving on 32 hours.

We are already in a labor shortage.

Those on salary will be even more overburdened than they are now.

There are 32 hour/week jobs available for those who want to look for that specifically.

I try to do four 10 hour days with my business. Im spending less time with employee getting setup/packing up. They get another day to do their stuff.

Oh there's another side to it: 32 hours max for every worker, lower pay/reduced hours and now the 40-hr M-F week goes bye-bye.

Your 32 hours are spread randomly throughout the week, along with all the other workers. And all businesses are running 24/7.

That could get traction from politicians.

This. Not many of us can afford that kind of a pay cut. The 4 day work week is already here at my employer and many others, with 4 days working 10 hours. No cut in pay. People can already work 32 hours a week . . it's called part-time.
