I went the opposite way. What changed for me was changing from an agnostic to an evangelical Christian.

That was just wrong on so many levels, so I started supporting those civil unions by whatever name.
See above for why I've been opposed to gay marriage. It's not that I have any particular desire to prevent two gay guys from legalizing their relationship if they love each other (this statement represents a change in my views on the subject over time), but I believe that marriage is a sacrament from God and is only intended for one man and one woman. I'd have been OK with it if they had just called them civil unions or whatever, but to me, the term "marriage" is reserved for what I believe God has ordained it to be.

To be honest, I'd rather get the government out of the marriage business entirely. Let the state bestow "civil unions" on those who wish to be joined together in the sight of the State, and grant whatever privileges it wishes to grant. And let God's church bestow "marriage" on those who wish to be joined together in the sight of God. Those who wish to be married could also gain civil unions, but those who are in civil unions but do not wish to follow the definition of marriage as defined by God could not be married.

2 years of covid caused me to stop believing that the Government was capable of doing anything productive.

Then started to realize the democrats and republicans were both the bad guys, but republicans less so.

I've always been conservative, even when I voted for Bill Clinton the first time (only democrat I've ever voted for). I voted for him because he was going to (and did to a certain extent) 'fix' the welfare system.

My beliefs have remained conserative through the years, but one thing I don't believe anymore is that the people in Washington DC (and that's on both sides of the aisle) have our best interests at heart. I also don't think that any of them are 'experts' at anything. They are all partisan blowhards in their own ways and the only way we will remedy this is term limits and restricting how they can enrich themselves off the inside info they somehow get while they are slogging around the swamp. It's a hideous situation and our founding fathers are probably rolling in their graves.

As a young man I truly used to believe the people we elected, regardless of party, actually cared about their fellow Americans. As an adult, I've come to the realization that pretty much the opposite of that is true. Again, regardless of party. Aside from a few fighters in the House and Senate who get railroaded or pushed aside by the majority, for the most part we are represented by a bunch of self-serving sycophants who care more about preserving their seat of power than preserving and improving our way of life. Those who come into office with a will to fight are quickly brought to heel or discarded when the next election rolls around. Most of the people we have in Washington are career politicians, and you don't stay in Washington unless you learn to play dirty. We need term limits in the House and Senate.

I’m more Libertarian than Republican but I will say this given the current freak clown show that the left and Democrats are putting on with our government right now I definitely would lean Republican. Lol if only given the two choices. As for me, I used to be opposed very much too gay marriage. I viewed marriage as something sacred between a man and woman and with over 4000 years of history of marriage being between a man and a woman, who were these liberals to come in and change things overnight. I would say for the last 10 years I simply do not care. Now I do think all this gender identification stuff is getting too ridiculous and I do not think former males should be able to compete in sports with females. it’s just too unfair.

I agree with you 100%. There are a few that truly care. That lay awake at night thinking about these issues. Unfortunately they are far and few between. I view most politicians as salesperson Fast talkers, they know and learn the appeal of those they have to impress and then they say all the right things. Once they get an office and they get their roots dug in a bit? It’s me, me , me! They enrich themselves, their friends and their family. It Doesn’t matter what political party they are from, they all end up doing the same things.

So the means to an end is justification?
