You realize she just won the OLYMPICS, yes???? IOW, she beat everyone else in the world who was good enough to make am Olympic team, including the Americans. So how can you possibly say the US team was "too competitive" when she beat them, too?

So, she wants to make her bed in China then so be it.

I have two friends that did EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE and are now US citizens from China.

I'd have to be a big hypocrite to go after this gal after my ancestors did the same thing from Europe years ago.
Spare me the sophomoric equivalency and "she's free to do XYZ" arguments. They're beneath you and not worth engaging.

With recent events exposing Chinese nationals attending US universities shown to be members of the Chinese military and or spies having a Chinese loyal of mixed parentage attending American university could become another method of spying.
Hey, pure Caucasian men do that too.
Did you check the Chinese hockey team?

Zhu Yi is criticized in China NOT because of her failure, but because she was alleged to steal the chance to participate from another famous Chinese skater, and people say it's because her father is a high-profile scholar who went back from UCLA to China.
Also, many Chinese still support her in spite of the undesirable performance.

You go where the money is and where you have advantages. Gu and Zhu among others know their fortune is to be made in China where they will be openly accepted to compete. Right now China is eager to attract talent from all over the world. We shouldn't be quick to judge them or denounce them as traitors with Cold War mentalities. Sheesh, all this talk about competing for other countries is somewhat hypocritical because the US has long drawn talent from around the world in the past to compete as Americans, even hastening citizenship for them. This article from 2016 best sums up the reasons why athletes might choose to compete for a country other than their own. https://www.theatlantic.com/news/arc...ountry/494648/. Reasons can range from ethnic pride to being at risk of being cut from the Olympics because of a glut in talent in the field. The best way to win back such talent is to beat America's opponents in their own game by creating more opportunities to compete and performing better in the field.

I work at a hospital. I know full well that having a university education doesn’t mean the person isn’t an idiot. Plenty of doctors and nurses are knowledgeable in their field of study but are complete idiots outside their field of study.

Oh sure, kick her out of America. The person who studied hard enough to get into a prestigious US university (she's legit and has the stats), trained hard enough to become an Olympic gold medalist, is striving to bridge cultures who misunderstand one another. Yeah, kick out this role model.

In the meantime, we have widespread looting; shooting; smash and grab robberies; and Americans who can't stay away from drugs and cocaine, precipitating corruption and terrorism in countries south of our border. These are the model citizens we'd rather keep.
