This was done to throw the flight attendants union a bone. It’ll likely be allowed to expire thereafter

LOL @ flight attendants clinging to this prime occasion to force passengers to RESPECT THEIR AUTHORITAH!!

I don't know what the flight attendant's union's position on masks is, but I would think that most rank-and-file flight attendants would love to get rid of the mandate. After all, a large majority of today's unruly passenger incidents are related to the mask requirement. And even aside from that, I'm sure it's tiresome for the attendants to have to remind the passengers to keep their masks on every five minutes, like they're speaking to a bunch of toddlers.
There are very - very - few flight attendants enjoying this.
I'm not an anti-masker by any means - but if anyone is left supporting this airline policy - you should know that there is not one statistical study that shows it makes a difference. If you have such a study - please post it.
The "experts" all need to be fired and their positions eliminated.
It's both sad and hilarious how in any non-government job, your ass would be fired for doing the same useless things for 2 years (and counting) expecting different results.

Especially since air filtration on planes is supposedly so good.

2 years? They would have been gone 6 months into this nonsense.

It is indeed good, but that's not the main reason why it's not a statistical game changer:
1. Airlines don't filter the air. They exchange it. Old air out, new air in. Some better than others - but filtering ain't the main crux of it in this case;
2. It can be demonstrated that 80% of planes have zero contagious people on them;
3. Those that would spread it (unmasked) would also spread it at home, at the bank, at the restaurant they're about to visit - whatever - so the overall impact is tiny compared to the big impact of a contagious person in the wild.
For these reasons and more - there is no - I mean, none - evidence of a statistically significant change in COVID transmission based on aircraft passengers.

And you don’t have to wear it when you’re eating and drinking. Even if masks “worked,” which they don’t, the fact that they aren’t worn the entire time proves the rule is nothing more than COViD theater.
