It was not being enforced much on both of my flights this past weekend (Delta--Detroit to New Orleans) much at all. I also saw many people in the airport, particularly in New Orleans, not wearing masks and nobody said a word.
Got upgraded to first class (woo!) and from reaching cruising altitude to initial descent the flight attendant was constantly serving drinks/meals/snacks, so masks were down pretty much the entire flight. The flight attendants also had several unmasked conversations in the galley amongst themselves.
Enforcement may vary from one airport or airline to another. You may hear constant announcements over the PA about the masking requirement, and there may be signs posted all over the place, but I think in an effort to avoid hostile confrontations, it isn't strictly enforced.
Employees may be another story. They can be threatened with disciplinary action for non-compliance.
I wouldn’t want such an explanation from you. I believe you argued that the vaccine mandate was “voluntary” because you have the option to quit your job and become destitute.
I guess you do need an explanation after all.
