Was researching this car yesterday as the father in law wants one. Battery life at around 5 to 6 years, battery replacement at $16000 to $16500. The car wont even be worth that much in that time frame. Just disposable junk

I buy 4 to 6 cars a year so batt life means nothing to me. It was fine the 1.5 years i had it. I sued and got my money back jack. GM will never replace all the batts in them. They are under recall.

You buy 4 to 6 cars a year and you're worried about "gas mileage?"

That's "TODAYS" replacement cost. Replacement batteries have constantly been dropping in prices as the tech develops.

I remember when my parents first got Direct TV in 1998. It was over $1000. Now, they give the boxes and satellites out free.

Remember the cost for a big screen tv. I remember when a 60" flat screen was $10k. Now, you can find them for $150.

What is the guarantee of that?

I will not buy an electric vehicle on the strength of battery replacement costs expected to go down by the time I need to replace one.

As the minerals required to build batteries become more and more scarce as the demand increases, so will the cost of batteries go up. So there might be a cheaper alternative in the future. Might is not a guarantee.

That and prices. I was always OCD on gas prices even when i had my 1972 Chevy 4 door green lean machine in 1982 till 89. I hated paying around 83 cents a gal pal around 1984.

One of my Prius' will roll over 200k this summer. People used to make fun saying a replacement battery was going to cost me $10k. the last time I checked it would be $2500.

Just as the infrastructure to support gasoline-powered cans lagged behind at the beginning of the 20th century.

Gasoline car support quickly expanded and became common enough that it was no longer a problem getting fuel, repairs, etc.

And support for electric cars will similarly expand and become common and easily available.

Currently batteries take a relatively long time to charge. If you charge your EV at a Supercharger station that charges it in 20 minutes or so, you will seriously degrade the life of the battery. And batteries are very expensive.

All these deficiencies are significant today. And they will be ironed out in time, making EVs less expensive and more convenient. Just as gasoline cars' deficiencies got ironed out in time.

Electric vehicles definitely ARE the future. They're just not the "today"... yet.
I linked an article earlier that was reporting on a study done of the existing infrastructure for EV charging stations. A large percentage of them simply did not work.

So even if they have the infrastructure, there is still the constant worry that the charging station won't work.
