She may have. The media fawned over her when she pushed Germany into green energy and embraced business partners Russia, China and Iran.. Now, they are not so sure.
The German economy is in tatters. A recent headline says “German Industries Could Collapse Due to Russia Natural Gas Supply Cutbacks.” Germany is now described as “the sick man of Europe.” Things are getting so desperate that the Germans are now considering rationing gas for their major industries to keep the lights on

What happened?
*Germany moved away from Nuclear and fossil fuels except those produced in Russia
*Germany scoffed when Trump said, in 2018, that Germany would rue the day they built pipelines to Russia
*Ever the contrarian, she aligned Germany with rogue and militaristic regimes in Russia, China, and Iran
*She refused to pony up the 4% of GDP that Germany owed NATO for Europe’s defenses, and she bristled when Trump demanded it.........

Perhaps if the Germans and Europeans had heeded Trump’s advice, the debacle of Ukraine wouldn’t have happened.

Well, since Angela, like Xoe, worked for The Other Side, yes, she weakened Germany any way she could. That was her mission. The German people were stupid enough to keep her in for 16 years. Now they pay.

I have read that the German armed forces are in no way ready for much of anything. If they're building up, they need to.

OK, there's this:

Wlad The Impaler may have inadvertently done many people a big big favor. I think it's called a wake up call.

Europe as a whole is committing suicide w/green energy initiatives, WEF Great Reset scheme, inflationary policies and russian embargo's. Its fascinating to watch in real time.
The Sri Lankans and Dutch farmers have had enough of it, maybe the Germans will follow.

Washington brought Germany's economy into ruin, not "Merkel."

As intended. ( And Germany is a backbone of the "old Europe.")
Russian gas was essential for German industry.

Cutting Ukraine off of Russia was Washington's plot under Obama.

Germany was standing on the way of this plot with its close economic ties to Russia.

That's why it has been hit the hardest.

Plain and simple.

So this is more about RU than Germany. Its the partnerships with RU, and because RU is shunned that Germany is taking a licking, assuming they actually are.

This sounds more like having any kind of relations with RU is bad bad bad. And less about Green Energy.

Not a good idea if you are a German. They started 2 world wars and lost both. Do they know how it ends when they pick a fight with Russians? They should sit this one out.

A few weeks ago, I was watching an episode of "This Old House", one of my favorite programs so I record it for watching later. I believe the episode was from 2016, and the crew went to Germany to show their progress to "Green Energy", including residential as well as industrial.

I believe they were saying that they'd be totally green by 2022. Looks like didn't work out, and never did if they were dependent on natural gas from Russia.

"This Old House" was better when they spent virtually the entire show rebuilding the old house. Now they spend what seems like half the program on ancillary things, like touring the nearby towns, etc. I miss Norm.

The short answer is yes.

The more disturbing answer is that not only is Germany's society degrading thanks to Green BS and Herr Biden (he removed the sanctions on the Nordstream Pipeline that goes from Russia to Germany; that the former Russian asset President Trump { R - Moscow} had implemented); but it could even lead to war.
