What a hypocrite. I feel bad for his son with such a two faced father.

GOP lawmaker opposed same-sex marriage, then went to gay son’s wedding

Rep. Glenn Thompson (R-Pa.) last week voted against federal legislation that would require states to recognize same-sex marriages. Three days later, the congressman attended his son’s same-sex wedding.

“Congressman and Mrs. Thompson were thrilled to attend and celebrate their son’s marriage on Friday night as he began this new chapter in his life. The Thompsons are very happy to welcome their new son-in-law into their family,” Thompson’s press secretary, Maddison Stone, told The Washington Post late Monday in an email.

In other news the anti gun Joe Biden talks about banning them and meanwhile his son is lying on Federal Forms, being careless and losing his gun?

Oh well, what is new? Politicians on both sides of the aisle are hypocrites. They will pound the table to promote green energy but when it comes to setting up a wind farm or a solar array to save the planet but not in their backyard or the backyards of their wealthy donors... The same goes for Illegal Immigration. They are all for "helping those poor asylum seeking migrants" BUT don't dare go to their neighborhood unless it is to cut their grass...

Would it come as a shock if the most ardent Anti Abortion politician was caught taking his intern to a clinic? That baby could sink his poll numbers as well as his career.

Politicians are great at telling us what to do but their rules do not apply to them and that goes for both sides.

Stupid question: Did the bill contain a poison pill? (Yes I know both parties do it)

First off, supporting your family can be unconditional to how you may feel about a topic.

Second, it could be seen as a states right issue and a good lawmaker represents their constituency even if they're not completely on board with it.

Really not seeing the hypocrisy here if you consider that some people don't have as rigid of mindsets as others and will *gasp* actually represent their voters.

Both sides do it..but at least he had a more valid reason than many other politicians. Many times you see the hypocrisy that is really only self-serving. But in this case, he went to the wedding to support his son.
This is often a hard concept for some to understand but sometimes you do things for families that you don't necessarily agree with.

His son or partner could have told him to not show up...they didn't do that.

But it doesn't matter what we think about it. It matters what his constitutions care about. If they wanted him to vote against the act, then he is following what they want. If he didn't vote how they wanted, they can vote him out at the next opportunity.

It matters what his constituents think. He represents them, not himself.

All true but this thread is about this particular hypocrite.

If I was his son I would have banned him from the wedding and told him why to his face.

He may be biologically responsible, but he's no father.

Pretty much this. The more people realize this, the less we will be divided.
