At that point it becomes murder. Plus, it's not "my body, my choice" - there was a father involved and he gets a vote too. A mother's health issue is another matter.

Let me state, again. I do not believe the Federal government should be involved in the issue of abortion.

The Left is really ramping up their word games with this issue...
But the state legislators should be involved?

Less than 10% of abortions occur after 15 weeks, this will impact red states more since many have imposed complete bans at heartbeat.

Even in blue states abortions after 15 weeks are rare and almost non-existent after 24 weeks are microscopic.

It would be nice to see a female legislator with a proposal rather than a single white male.

State’s rights was always a joke. The GOP never really meant it. Graham’s bill left in place more restrictive red state laws but overturned less restrictive blue state laws.

Did Graham not get the memo? The Constitution says that if a certain power is not given to the Fed govt, then it's forbidden to the Fed. But "the states and the people" can still exercise it if they want.

The power to regulate abortion is not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution. So the Fed govt cannot regulate it. Only "The states and the people" can if they want to.

The 1973 Supreme Court had a majority of Justices who also didn't get the memo. But the 2022 Supreme Court did get the memo. And they quoted it in their Dobbs decision.

The decision was, in fact, all about state's rights (actually about states' powers).

So much for the GOP/Dobbs being about state's rights, I guess.

Call me crazy, but when Roe was overturned, Republicans were proclaiming that this would become an issue left to individual states.

NOW, they have changed their stance and are trying to ban it at the national level? Woah!

As if it wasn't already apparent, the GOP has just made it unmistakably clear that they don't care at all about expanding rights or making lives better for the American people. They want an authoritarian state where the majority has to play by their narrow minded rule book.

Not that I am complaining, by why on earth would the GOP announce these insidious plans NOW? Less than 2 months before a midterm election in which they are losing ground every day?

Let's vote out these shameless hypocrites in November. The GOP needs to recalibrate in a major way if they have any hope of remaining a legitimate party going forward.

I also think the federal gov shouldn't touch this, it should be left to the states.

It seems that this is just a response to the D's push for federally sanctioned 'abortions at anytime, anywhere with no repercussions'. Grandstanding, from both sides.

Yes as we have seen in Michigan (court challenge for too many spaces) and other state attempts to keep this off the ballot in November as a referendum, this will be on the ballot one way or another. That is why they are backing off.

His home state of South Carolina could have simply put this up for referendum in November.

You're wrong. Congress already legislates things that aren't mentioned in the constitution.
