I don't think they are racist. They just don't want poor people living among them.
Compared to the poor people currently there now that the wealthy tourists (most from out of state - including DeSantis to Nantucket this summer) have left?
It's an island that's a $100 45 minute ferry ride from the mainland. When the tourists leave, there are few jobs. And wealthy folks who own homes that could house people spend a few weeks a year on the island, and it's definitely not now.
