The car manufactures didn't manufacture the idea to steal their cars. The legally and ethically challenged thieves did that. Nothing but shifting responsibility. Stealing a car is a CRIME committed by criminals. They make excuses including the alleged parents of teens that might decide to take up an illegal social media challenge.

The original stories over the summer said Kia and Hyundai were going to have fixes due about now. Even if the car owner didn't get the fix the criminals who stole the cars and committed a crime have do the time and suffer the associated consequences. Certain points in one's things will change FOREVER including those who start their criminal career.

In my community people sometimes leave their car running with the keys in it as they dash in a small store. Frankly, they are basically inviting someone to steal it and yet no one does. People, including teen boys just walk past it, some shaking their head at the stupidity of the owners. I am pretty confident that is not how it would work in nearby Louisville, let alone St. Louis.

The problem is not the car.

There are certain points in ones life when decisions are made that will dictate the rest of your life. You start taking drugs you can get hooked. You start drinking to get drunk you could either end up with a DUI, in prison or fighting the addiction at an AA meeting.

With these teens they have gone from stealing some candy to now stealing cars and think nothing of it. What is next for them? Will they continue their life of crime because it is "cool" or because tic toc is telling them and will they keep upping their crimes until they end up in prison, the hospital or dead?

There has to be some repercussions. For an addict they can hit rock bottom and that spurs them to get back on the wagon. When it comes to young thugs they need to be arrested and scared straight. Just letting the criminals get away with it time and again like so many of the Liberal DA's do is serving no one but the criminal.

We should be alarmed that the age of hardened criminals is getting younger and younger.
