What's the problem? Someone needed to remind the white guy of his place in America.
What place might that be? Comparing household wealth, yearly income, etc, it seems whites are doing quite alright for themselves here in the USA. Perhaps the guy heckling the peaceful couple is jealous that his job of spewing racist hatred towards people on the subway doesn't pay diddle squat and hasn't made him better off in this country?

Using violence against words is an example of low class, brutish, uncivilized behavior. It usually ends up bad for everybody involved. Not something that should be encouraged in a developed, civilized nation. Better to be the bigger man and just let a fool self identify themselves. Creating 2 fools probably wouldn't have worked to either one of those guys advantage. Someone would end up seriously hurt, perhaps dead, and the other would possibly end up in prison. Getting owned by Bubba in the shower has got to be the dumbest prize to "win" in the history of prizes...

With all the vicious assualts that have been occurring in subways (and elsewhere)...taking a passive attitude in the face of someone that has assumed such an aggressive posture is not being prudent, in my view.
Especially with the woman and child in such a vulnerable position as well.
As he came forward he looked like he was about to assault them...he had moved close enough to strike or cut them.
There is no way to know he wasn't...and based on recent events and the way that scenario was unfolding, it was reasonable to assume that's what was coming.
Protecting yourself and others from "low class, brutish, uncivilized behavior"...is not itself that same type of behavior.
Notice I suggested a non-lethal response, that does not even permanently injure? It just incapacitates.
One is not being "the bigger man" by not responding to outward threats...THAT is the "fool" if one is at all capable of taking defensive & protective measures.
Doing nothing in the that kind of situation is how you and yours end up seriously hurt or killed...and countless have.
Well, according to statistics, half of black Americans don't think it is ok to be white. And if they were completely honest the number would be even higher.

Who cares if some or most of them don't like white people. That's a chip they have to carry around. It can be a number of reasons. Maybe they have had bad luck with white people, maybe they are jealous? Who knows.
