But back to the subject of banned books - if by "banned" you mean not published at all, I see no reason to ban them.

But if it means banned for public schools, at any level, they should be banned. What do they add to the education a person is getting in the public school system? Nothing. They certainly should not be available nor pushed in the school system.
What? Reading opens up the mind. Geesh

After got it- thrift store runs every weekend to buy books. Had to build a shelf close to the ceilings for her books. We monitored, but did not impede her selections.
I did however constantly check computers and my son blocked his kids cell phones or had parental controls. That we did, not books.
But I’ll try to get a copy of those two books to better answer, I don’t believe it’s porn. Recently head Nora Roberts books also were removed. Lord
yes, both elementary and jr. high.

if you haven't even seen them, then you are wasting everyone's time rabidly defending them without having the slightest clue what you're even defending.

Your own link says they weren’t banned, they were removed from required reading lists but still available for individuals to read on their own.

“..the Burbank (CA) Unified School District superintendent removed these titles from required classroom reading lists. Following a review committee’s recommendation, the superintendent also banned the use of the N-word in all school classes. The titles are available for individual reading…”

Why were they removed? Lefty censorship. No ifs, ands, or buts.

No, that is not the only complaint.

Although, both sides need to come together and have a rational approach to what is age appropriate or not for their children.
The parents should not be responsible for what is in the library. The librarian is, the librarian is accountable to the school, its mission and curriculum. The parents should participate by being active in the PTA and running for school board to shape schools. Making a random complaint and walking away from the work of the school won’t effect meaningful change. Most of these complainers have no idea the way education works.

In our school district, there's a specific format for parents to complain about educational materials. FIRST, go to the teacher and see if you can get it resolved. (Or librarian, if it's a library material). Then go to the Principal.

Then, if the parent still hasn't felt a resolution has happened, request a hearing with the district committee that consists of administrators, teachers, and parents.

So a single parent complaint can trigger a hearing before the district committee and have that material removed.
