Work on that too.
Some municipalities require registration of vacant properties. Some also go on to require escrow deposits by the bank or controlling entity to cover any emergency work the municipality may have to perform such as securing opened and abandoned houses, clearing overgrown vegetation, or even emergency demo services if there is a fire or accident. Typically these payments would go through a long and arduous process to be added as a special tax assessment.

Having worked in the field and dealt with a fair number of landlord-tenant (or owner-squatter) disputes, there absolutely has to be a way to streamline the process in court. Owners will never agree en mass to filing leases or registering, because there are a fair number of units that are either not legal (either by lack of building permit for construction or failing to meet habitable guidelines) and I'm sure that there is a decent amount of unreported income right now. But that said, the simple claims of non-payment or expiration of lease should be aired in a hearing within a relatively short time frame with limited availability of adjournment or legal game playing involved

That said, I also don't want evictions in the hands of beat cops on a random call for service. They're simply not armed with enough information when they show up to a landlord-tenant dispute. I want some sort of order from a judge involved before people are removed. The degree of injury (loss of dwelling) is too great if we get it wrong. But once that order is issued, we should train, equip, and empower any law enforcement agency to carry out the eviction if necessary.

If you own a property and don't visit it for 5 years then that is on you. I visit my land at least twice a year.

An example:
Peeples then arrived at the property and found squatters inside the home who claimed they had the lease for the house which they found on Zillow. The squatters told police they were victims of a rental scam by a fraudulent landlord who they paid rent, a security deposit and a pet deposit to.

If you buy a stolen car on CraigsList you don't get your money back when it is recovered by the police. That is between you and the fake seller.

We'll see. They may have to push it to the Supreme Court but this law is going to stand. Hooray!

I especially like how the Florida State Attorney, Andrew Bain, directly identified the sanctity of private property rights. The Founders did everything possible to protect private property rights in the US Constitution.

Progressives hate personal property rights, believing as socialists do, that all property essentially belongs to the state and we are mere guardians of property at the discretion of the state.

So it is wonderful to see a State's Attorney pronouncing the sanctity of personal property rights.

I would never live in Florida in a million years, but voters have done an incredible job of improving their politicians up and down the line. Kudos.
The only role of government is to enforce contracts and protect private property rights. Everything else stems from that.

The case in NY recently where the owner gets taken off to jail for changing the locks and trying to get rid of the squatters isn't something that the American public going to stand for.

Dem and Republicans can both agree, if you go off to vacation and leave you house unattended, and people just break in and take it over isn't something that anyone of normal mindset isn't going to put up with. The owners should be allowed to immediately get them kicked out.

It's insane and shouldn't be allowed to happen.

Communists don’t believe in private properties….unless it’s their property. Also known as NIMBY

Just look the hypocrisy and reaction from the communist left when Abbot and DeSantis started busing migrants to communist backyard.
