School shootings are horrific to be sure. Students shouldn’t have to worry about safety at school. Parent shouldn’t have to worry about their students while they are learning.

Lockdown drills create anxiety with a constant narrative being pushed onto students that they are not safe in schools. These drills are done several times a year, if not more and are mandated by law.

But if it was REALLY about protecting students, it could be done. How are government buildings in DC protected? They have metal detectors and armed patrol.

What would a group of people who are anti second amendment do? They would push the narrative that guns on campuses or threats of gun violence on campus is far worse than it really is and they do. They prey on the emotions of parents and convince them these drills are designed to protect their kids, when in reality they are more about protecting the districts.

What impact are all these drills having on the mental health of children?

Districts worry about being sued. So they continue the lockdown drills. Now we will pour ever more money into ‘mental health’ initiatives to solve the problems created by districts themselves.

Anytime there is a school shooting in this country, the anti Second Amendment politicians are out there pushing gun control before the bodies are cold. Those children are pawns in the power game.

Teachers are mostly left leaning. At a recent school board meeting, I heard a teacher stand up and proudly proclaim “I am an activist teacher’ and she started her anti gun speech.

Policies matter.
Is there a link to back this up or is this just you talking?

Which part, the drills or actual shootings. We have stats for the shootings which are easy to find yourself. The lock downs... Probably about the same results as covid.

"Lockdown drills create anxiety with a constant narrative being pushed onto students that they are not safe in schools."

"Lockdown drills create anxiety...."

1st, back t up.

Your OPINION, I do not agree with.

We had safety drill in school all the time and it didn't " create anxiety".

There have always been some kind of drill in schools. Either it was for some nuclear bomb coming our way from the USSR, to preparation for strong storms and tornadoes. I'd rather my kid be prepped and not need it than need it and not be prepped to have to think under stressful conditions.

Teachers not knowing what to do is a big, if not bigger, issue and many of them are dumber than the kids.

The lead school Security officer and I had to in-service the staff every year on the various drill procedures. There were always a couple teachers who would argue that if a lockdown order came during class change that they wouldn't take any kids into their rooms that they didn't know.

Then there were the ones who wanted to know if their doors actually had to be locked during an event (we had an issue with that, the doors couldn't be locked from inside) in case a kid had to go to the restroom.

There were other dumbnesses I can't remember right now. I did get a complaint filed against me by a colleague for "scaring her" with the in-service.

Chew on this one:

In 2019, gun injury became the leading cause of death among children aged birth to 19 years. Moreover, the United States has had 57 times as many school shootings as all other major industrialized nations combined.

From your article, "In contrast, US school mass shootings have not increased"

Every freakin' lock down drill!!! Every one! One teacher even told his students he was jumping out the window, and they were on their own. While that would likely be the case for him if we had a school shooter, he didn't need to announce it to the kids.
