I have a pretty good idea it's various factions of the Republican Party. All over the country they're starting to "analyze" where they went wrong. This boils down into two schools of thought. We aren't "hard right" enough. Demand school prayer, demanding ID be taught, forcefully shutting down Planned Parenthood etc.

The other school says; it's time to rein in government spending and return to our "real Republican" roots. Of course the thought of reining in the spending when it was theip pet projects never occured to them. But no way do they want to fund Democratic projects.

Anyway, none of them want to "bring a knife to a gun fight".

When I bought ammo today they asked to see my voter id card; only Republicans can own a gun, you know.

Most of our local gun shops and super stores are out of ammo. THere is a two week waiting list for highpower rifle, Military rifle, and large handgun cartridges.

You can get 22's and some shotgun shells.

Looks like UPS is gonna be busy shipping in all the web orders.

22 will work if you can aim properly. About the most I can afford right now is a pellet gun or slingshot. Both will kill small animals and chase away dogs without killing them but they won't do much against an armed intruder.

People are concerned that various gun and ammunition prohibition laws and Executive Orders could be in effect in just a few months. They want to buy before the ban . At least enough to get by until the law is repealed or sunsets.

The voting records of Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden seem to support some genuine concern.
The huge spike in gun and ammunition sales , new NRA members , etc also demonstrate some real economic power and strength in numbers.

Remember 1994?
The huge shift in Congress.

The "assault weapon" ban will be passed. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to think otherwise.

As for who's buying all the guns, I am. I'm buying an "assault weapon" or two while I can, but I'm not going to let myself be gouged. This sudden spurt has caused prices to rise (although I found one retailer who has the model I want in stock and hasn't raised the price), but they'll settle down a bit before the legislation is passed. Once the bill is passed, though, expect the prices to skyrocket like never before until the law takes effect - there will be no sunset clause this time, and people will pay insane amounts of money for their "last chance" to get one.

I went to the gun store yesterday to use their range, and they were very, very busy. According to one of the managers, they usually have 4 or 5 guns on hold at any given time, waiting for the background checks to come back. Right now, they have a stack two inches thick. They pay the government in advance for the background checks, and at the end of October, they paid for the volume they expected to have through the entire month of November. They had used up that entire escrow account by Friday afternoon.

People aren't stupid. While there may be some "panic" buying of some types of guns that won't be (immediately) targeted, the concern that an Obama administration coupled with a (D) heavy Congress will start chipping away at our 2nd Amendment right is very real, and they know it. The "assault weapon" ban (which is nothing more than a ban on scary looking guns) will be passed, and soon. This being Las Vegas and all, I'd be willing to lay odds on that...

They were verifying your age and citizenship.

HEY! What's going on here?

I went to Obama's website yesterday to see for myself his statements about gun control (yes), and his direct statement that he will REINSTATE THE ASSUAULT WEAPONS BAN AND MAKE IT PERMANENT.

Here's the link:
Not Found | Change.gov (http://change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy/ - broken link)

Nothing there, right? Perhaps it's out for a little rewording to make it sound warm and fuzzy. eta: I also noticed that in the past hour, the page has been completely taken down. Previously it was still an "Obama" page, with the text "Sorry, the page you're looking for can't be found".

Here's a cached version of what WAS there:
http://74.125.45.104/search?q=cache:IcYml6GIwSAJ:change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy/+http://change.gov/agenda/urbanpolicy/&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us (broken link)

You see, he has every intention of further restricting innocent law abiding citizens' right to bear arms as they see fit. Yet in Chicago murders happen every day and those criminals are let out again and again to repeat their crimes. He WILL restrict our rights; he's just decided maybe he's not ready to show us just how much.

[edited again to add the paragraph text itself in the event Google is somehow compelled to eliminate that cached version of that page:

Address Gun Violence in Cities: As president, Barack Obama would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment, which restricts the ability of local law enforcement to access important gun trace information, and give police officers across the nation the tools they need to solve gun crimes and fight the illegal arms trade. Obama and Biden also favor commonsense measures that respect the Second Amendment rights of gun owners, while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them. They support closing the gun show loophole and making guns in this country childproof. They also support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets..."

No worse than what GWB did in his 8 years.
