It is sad, but America is rapidly becoming a second rate country.
We have habitually subordinated everything we do to appease the lowest possible denominator, leading to a bottomless downward spiral.
The momentum of the Greatest Generation is finally being worn down by the incessant whine of those that are unwilling or unable to struggle for self improvement and look to the government, to bureaucracy and welfare to help them through life.
We are rapidly taking second, third and fourth place in education, even today in my oh so wise and wondrous "state" of Khali-porn-ya another "judge" has decided against requiring algebra for middle school students....AGAINST testing for competency...(how stupid?...very stupid!)
Well people, kids in China and Pakistan and India and Russia....they're doing advanced mathematics in junior high school...even beyond simple algebra, but we here in the U.S. don't even want to require that MINIMAL level of knowledge...Why? Because some "minorities" can't hack it....Why can't they hack it? Because they are too busy pumpin' iron in the gym...too busy chasing preppy girls too busy wrenching on junk cars and hanging out on the streets running with the local gang....selling crack....
Lets face it....some "minorities" have NO interest in their OWN education. Education, particularly advanced education is for "whites and asians"....
Until that attitude changes....and the governmental powers that be stop catering to this ghetto view of education the U.S. will continue to back-slide while ALL our competitors rapidly advance. Everything we do in the U.S. the very high standard of living that we enjoy is directly DIRECTLY dependent on the level of education of our people. Our kids need to be WORLD LEADERS in educational attainment....not the bottom of the barrel...Again if we continue to pander and pimp to the very lowest....calling it "ebonics" or some other garbage we WILL reap the "benefits" of that, namely a rapid decline in quality of life....for all of us...

The "everyone's a winner" doctrine, where even losers get a trophy, taught in our schools from K-12 has turned our youth into spoiled crybabies unprepared to handle the "real" world. They complain they have it hard! Afterall, the depression generation survived an economic disaster of such proportion that they didn't know where the next meal was coming from, and then went on to fight a war that makes Iraq look like a picnic.
But thats nothing compared to having to juggle between maintaining Facebook, Myspace, and Flickr all at the same time!

its always been that way even during the times you claim the US was number one it was never that one US always had second rate education even people in cuba have superior education than america. the thing is america is materialisitc, egolistic country, education shoould come first. public schools are a mess

your attitude is all wrong, asian people(indian, chinese, pakistanis, japanese etc ) are minorities in america. this is kinda racist if you ask me, all minorities dont sell crack, whites have done it did it and do it, cocaine brought over by whites among others. some whites dont have interest in education either. there are asian gangbangers, asian drug dealers you live in a world of i dont know wth im talking abouts.

what is this ghetto view (or in your true words black view) of education? imma say again as i said it before various countries in asia and europe have always been ahead in the education department. you can blame our goverment/states for inferior education for blacks than those of whites in urban areas im sure you heard the policies so dont blame anyone but policies of americans when people offer inferior education based on race when other countries during the same time period were already ahead and becomiong more advance thats what happens when you have people not wanting to educate all equally and not thinking it will spill over generation after gen just like racism

higher standard of living gtfoh, there has always been ghettos and always will be. step outside the box and enter the real world...

I don't know WHAT the answer to terrorism is (and I shudder to think that maybe there IS none)...but I do know that that's no way to fight a war, that it's a sure way to lose any credibility or 'clout' you may have had, and if that's the best we can do, perhaps we should have stayed home. Clint Eastwood needs to shut up and just stick to making movies. Because he is obviously divorced from the real world. America hasn't gone soft, in fact it has become more backwards and uncivilized. We are the most violent country among all industrialized countries. We are the most militaristic country in the whole "f"ing world.
