Sorry, can't say I feel your pain. Quit 19 years ago.

I agree, but if you read back on what I said about fast food chains, I never said that anyone should control what you eat. Only that that stuff needs limits or else it gets outta hand (which it already has).

If they're allowed to plop a McDonalds on every corner, they will (have). No one needs that much junk food staring them in the face constantly, especially when healthy alternatives are so much harder to come by. People get busy & need to eat without a big deal. So most times, you'll just go somewhere that's bad for you just because its easy (and cheap). All Im talking about is just discouraging that & giving people a real choice of healthier alternatives. Not totally taking it away. Just don't make it so damn easy to eat garbage & so hard to eat healthier.

There's limits on everything. It doesnt mean you cant do them or anyone's taking away your freedom, its just a deterrent. Do you think there shouldn't be speed limits too??

So what about the smokers that are poor and get their care from the state government, many of which might be on welfare. If they die 10 years sooner, the state saves a wad of money in welfare payments, right ? And when people live to be a ripe old age, smoker or not, they will still need expensive healthcare at the end of their life anyway. In fact, sometimes a smoker might just keel over from a surprise heart attack and not use any medical services at all.

And rich smokers that die at age 65 will have their wealth transfered to the next generation faster without consuming it for their retirement. More inheritance taxes are generated that way.
who do you think pays for insurance? We all do, we all pay higher rates becacause of you, when you have your lung cancer treatment or your heart attack treatment or whatever we have to pay, our rates go up

humanity as a whole would all benefit if everyone took better care of themselves and ate better and didnt do drugs and all that crap

If it was up to me I would put a huge tax on junk food and fast food but I doubt that will happen any time soon

Well yes I did not know what you were getting at there, just wanted to point out that other peoples life choices are costing extra too, but they never get targeted like the smokers do. Some smokers do pay higher insurance rates.

What about all the smokers that quit before any permanent damage was done to their body that would show up later in life. They might of paid in 20 years for tobacco taxes and never collected anything back in extra health costs. I think smokers pay their way, and then some.

I got news for you all: WE LIVE IN A SOCIALIST COUNTRY & HAVE FOR A LONG LONG TIME NOW. Basically every modern country is.

We pay taxes to help pay for other things & our daily lives are chalked full of rules, regulations & limits. So that means you cant just go doing whatever you feel like, crying "FREEDOM!" the whole time. It doesnt work that way.

So I really dont know what to tell you guys. If you want total freedom to do whatever you want, go buy a deserted island somewhere & crown yourself ruler. Here in America, we help each other out by paying taxes & set up rules for what the overall consensus thinks is best for our fellow man.

Amen, those who cry about socialism and talk about life liberty and freedom are the ones who do the most damage to this earth and this world, also in my experience these people are also corrupt as hell but that is a given

Nope - won't do it.

I have the FREEDOM to speak - at least for the present

I don't need the government to tell me where to live. Or, what size home I should have. Or, what kind of car, or cars, I can drive. I don't need the government to provide me with retirement money (and the won't as I can never get social security). I don't need the government to tell me when I should die (by witholding life saving care). I don't need the government to tell me I HAVE TO take care of others by taxing me.

I don't need the government telling me what I can and cannot eat or drink - by social engineering (another name for taxes).

Also should mention alot of our tobacco is exported to other countries and the fed collects taxes on that as well. Just that money on it's own would probably pay for the extra 15% it costs the government for smoker's healthcare. Tobacco taxes are a cash cow not just for the fed but many states as well. Next time you pass a smoker on the street, thank them for paying a good share of your taxes for you. Next time you pick up a cigarette butt off your lawn, do it with glee and think about how that smoker paid 20 cents tax on that smoke, just for you, the non smoking public that forced those taxes upon that smoker, that smoker upon which this nation was founded and built.

Of course one could also lay much of the blame for the high costs of care/insurance on our bloated healthcare system. But thats another topic.
