There IS nothing preventing you from going, just like there is nothing stopping me other than perhaps some extra inconvenience, legal issues, conscience. Petty stuff.
This is true. You can hop on your boat and go anytime you want. Or you can swim, but you can't go by plane, which would the the easiest way.
You have to fly to Canada or Mexico first, and even then you are breaking the US law.

I've heard of US Customs and Immigration getting wind of folks that do this and they fine them big time.
From the US State Dept Website.
This restriction includes tourist travel to Cuba from or through a third country such as Mexico or Canada. U.S. law enforcement authorities have increased enforcement of these regulations at U.S. airports and pre-clearance facilities in third countries. Travelers who fail to comply with Department of Treasury regulations could face civil penalties and criminal prosecution upon return to the United States.
The ban needs to be lifted, end of story, especially since we can travel to North Korea and Saudi Arabia, which are way more oppressive than Cuba.
You are correct. However, and this is well known, there are a lot of ways to get around this and the system has been set up to do just that. Every one has a role, every step of the way and your American passport does not get stamped in Cuba so nobody ever really has to know you went there.

Yah. I don't think anybody REALLY wants to swim to Cuba. This is like reverse rafting. Not a good idea in either direction and definitely not necessary from here to there.

OK. Didn't hear the part about it being just once a year.
But see how retarded all this is? CUBANS can go to Cuba once a year to see their friends and families. If that was only true. Many of them just go to scam their own kind and sell stuff at 4 and 5 times the amount it costs here. So they end up with a free trip and then some. On top of it, where do the Cubans in Cuba get the money to pay these scammers? From those of us who support them from here.
Then, US citizens who have friends and families too, cannot go there legally and have to jump hoops and take unnecessary risks that the Cuban residents don't have to take. That is just ludicrous.
It's about dang time to let go of the cold war. I mean, a communist country practically owns the USA, but we still can't go to Cuba? Duh.
I agree with this, but why the blaming of Obama?
And why special treatment of only one country's immigrants to the US?
It's another Obama troll thread. Where were these whinings during the Bush administration?
Obama's been in office, what, 7 weeks with an economy in the crapper and bigger problems than some people wanting to fly to Havana in the most simple and convenient way.

Yes we have very big problems right here in the US. How come we can travel to Mexico and South America with no restrictions yet they are pumping drugs into our kids AND adults and it's as American as apple pie?
I'll take going to Cuba simply and conveniently. That's my choice.
