You can go any time you want. Just route your trip through Toronto. It's really not difficult.
You may wish to note, however, that Cuba's big brothers don't let anyone visit anywhere.
But do go give them your money. That makes a word of sense.
I won't "give" anyone my money. I have and will continue to exchange it for goods and services. You know, like capitalists do and many presidents keeping the embargo seem to forget.
What doesn't make sense is having to route a flight through Canada just so I may visit Cuba. Which country is socialist again?
Um...putting our foot down and standing up to the evil empire is tough talk, but rings hollow when referencing open relations during the 80's.
It only rings hollow if you didn't live through that era. We didn't Proctor and Gamble them to death. Their people just got tired of endless warmongering without decent refrigerators. We bankrupted them and showed them they couldn't win. Their invason of Afganistan was the final straw.
Scary how we seem poised to repeat that adventure...

Your money props up tyrants. Go for it. Just don't pretend it's the right thing to do.

It has nothing to do with socialism. I repeat: the Cubans can't go anywhere. You experience a mild inconvenience by havng to change planes in Canada. Try keeping those facts firmly in mind.

My taxpayer money props up banana republic dictators. Might as well spend it supporting a different dictator.

You seem to conveniently dodge the main thesis: "why is a 'socialist' country like Canada allowing me to travel ANYWHERE I want but not so with America?"
Not sure what airport you went through in Cuba, but when I went through Jose Marti, they did stamp my passport with a Cuban stamp. Have both a stamp from the Bahamas and Cuba on it. Perhaps they changed this since 2002? Like I said, Cuba is far from perfect, but it is not the worst place in the world. And yes, I did tour a couple of hospitals that were not "tourist" ones. Went to several non-tourist neighborhoods as well. Actually heard some Nine Inch Nails music coming from one of the homes as well As for living conditions, I have know several people in the U.S. who grew up in worse conditions with violence, hunger, and homelessness a very real part of life. So it is not unique to Cuba.

I'm not dodging anything.
So Canada enjoys expressing its independence from America in smug and trivial ways, like making nice to Fidel and his geriatric thugocracy, while conveniently (and hypocritically) ignoring the fact that no one in Cuba is free to travel anywhere.
How courageous.
Thus do children thumb their noses at the adults who protect and humor them...

It is irrelevant whether cubans are permitted to roam anywhere or not, ergo it should not affect American freedoms. The point is that America does not permit AMERICANS to travel to Cuba, all because of latino voter garnering in So. FL. or commie boogeyman talk, but certainly not because we're taking a stand against any dictator in particular. You may visit any number of other banana republic countries housing dictators, many of whom America has propped up over the past couple of decades. This is just more childish "the commies are gonna git us if we allow Americans to travel there" nonsense. The real proposal is: How cowardly that American leaders would use its childish temper tantrums and political posturing to restrict America's freedoms...
Traveling to Cuba, regardless of what manner you do so is illegal for Americans. To do an end runaround Canada is technically illegal (not that it should stop anyone, just sayin').
May I ask what morals we would have to jeopardize?
Thanks/
Who, you? Well.. first you would need to have morals.
