It's not total BS. This whole bill is about climate change. So why did Waxman cave to industry that creates this carbon to the tune of about $40 billion a year in "free" permits.

What is being done here besides collecting more money ? The polluters get a free ride and can continue to pollute while we get taxed ?

This from May:
Bloomberg.com: News

It should raise a red flag that the big companies are behind this bill.
Usually corporations balk at new taxes. They will make out like bandits and a new market will be formed trading "credits".

I just don't see where we are actually addressing the "climate" part of this bill. It seems to be all about politics and revenue. We, of course, will get no breaks.

You'll see a 7% decrease in utility costs in 2020 folks. Higher costs until then..how much is yet to be seen.

Concessions are being made all over the board to get this passed.
Pollution control seems to have dropped in priority from this bill.

Nobody taxed making over 250K that is a joke- this government grab will affect everybody. This bill would cost every individual taxpayer an average of $1800 to $2500 in increased energy costs. Transparency from Obama forget about it he is trying to ram this bill thru Congress with Pelosi's help before anybody truly understands what this bill is about. This will stifle our economy. Remember Obama believes the USA is great because of government not its citizens.
This is just onther reason why this government of ours will dig the country deeper into a depression.

Not that I'm for the bill....but that's a lie. Much like the CBO, the EPA's estimates($98-140) are much lower than the Republicans fear mongering numbers.

This is a very urgent message. You must contact your Congressmen today, because a vote is expected to take place on Friday, and as it stands right now, there is an extremely high probability that it will pass.

As the O.P. said, this will cost all Americans thousands of dollars/year in costs for everything they buy. Not just energy.

This is because the "carbon tax" affects all industries; no one is exempt, and these taxes will be passed on to the consumer in higher food prices, higher energy bills, etc.

Nothing we buy as consumers will be unaffected by this massive increase.

This bill simply must be stopped. Only you can stop it.

Call congress today, and let them know you are opposed to this energy bill.

Obama is a liar, according to you.

Gotcha.

Please offer some evidence to dispute your allegation of his lying.

cap and trade is an ELECTRICITY TAX and i hope all americans understand that. there is also good legislation being offered to at least see where this money will flow, so people can understand what it is doing to the consumer's electricity bill:

Rep. Jason Chaffetz is seeking original cosponsors for the Cap-and-Trade Tax Disclosure Act which will require utility companies to disclose and separately itemize the impact of cap-and-trade taxes on each customer’s utility bill. Sound tax policy requires that taxes should be visible to taxpayers and not buried in the cost of items we purchase. With this legislation, every utility customer – residential and business — will be able to identify the cost of cap-and-trade emissions that the utility is passing on to the customer. As regulated entities, utilities pass taxes on to customers, unlike unregulated companies that can also pass taxes on to shareholders and employees. The cap-and-trade tax is potentially the largest tax increase ever imposed. According to the Administration’s own budget document, the cost will be at least $646 billion over an eight-year period. No matter where you stand on the issue of cap and trade, both sides can agree that full disclosure and transparency are good public policy.

here is the contact information, for each state, so you can contact your representatives to try to stop yet another tax on americans, a tax which will hurt american industry even as it hurts the american consumer.
