One of the reasons America is sometimes described as being an insular country is the low ownership or passports, and thus the low rate of international travel. Which in some ways is fair enough; in comparison to Europeans, for example, popping over to another country is often a bigger deal than jumping on a train. Even if you take the highest of the figures here for Americans with passports as true, that is still a very small number of Americans who travel outside America.
all well and good but like the article says, the biggest beauracracy in health care is the US goverment, meaning that most of that comes from the federal goverment, and you really want the federal goverment to have more of it?
also, if canada's health care is sooooooooooo great, then dont bother coming here for their health care needs and over burden our system.

that is before a UHC is factored in, also I dont feel like relying on some jerk that is not even a nurse or doctor saying whether or not my child needs surgery for some ailment or not.
want lower health care? then take the federal goverment completely out of the business of the health care industry.
I am sorry you think it is condescending but it is true. I am NOT saying that every American has never been outside America but a high proportion haven't. Sorry but that is how it is.
It is the implication that if Americans traveled more their education would be complete and see how enlightened Europe is that is condescending. Many of us who have traveled extensively see the good and bad in Europe and understand how fundamentaly the US is different. European countries for the most part are homogeneous. This homogeneity accounts, in large part, for differences in how the continents arrange their affairs.

I also don't want "some jerk that is not even a nurse or doctor saying whether or not my child needs sugery" but that is what is happening in the USA every day. The Insurance Companies dictate whether your child gets certain treatments or not. In a UHC, the Doctor or Medical professional decide on your child's treatment NOT the Govt.

Australia in many ways is very similar to America yet they have implemented a UHC and it is extremely successful. When a UHC was first suggested in Australia, they wre like you are now and against it. They have now changed their minds and love the UHC.

You have said that before and I have shown you the ethnic breakdown of Australia, it is as homogeneous as any European country.

actually, if my health insurance will not cover mt daughters surgery, i can choose to go without the insurance and get it done anyway, with goverment there shall be no other choice, and goverment shall have a very big say on who can get what and who cant.
just look at what it takes to do some improvements on your land that has 2 inches of standing water that the corp of engineers thinks is wetlands.
also, my health insurance covers any pre existing condition when I got employed.
