Well looking at the reductions obama has proposed on medicacid spending that could be tranferred to teh sates in a federal program 'I can see why. Even looking at the unempoyemnt in stimulus it mandates things that cause changes in state laws that could cause the raisng of state taxes in the future.mnay taxpayers are going to get a unplesant surprise in state spending after the stimlulus money runs out. There is mandated spending by states after the stimulus tied to the stimulus money they are getting now.

Well I beg to differ with you...I'm not a Texas basher, but the economy is strong there due to the price of OIL over the past several yrs and the money being spent there...it has zero to do with a business model, taxes or anything else....I have lived there when tumbleweeds were blowing down the middle of the street and it was like a third world country.

Same with the state of WY.....I have lived there when oil prices were low and you couldn't buy a job and as soon as the oil prices would come back up it was 7/12s again.

You need to get your facts straight in at least one post and quit the partisan BS.

Not a Texas basher? Bullcrap!!

Texas is a diversified economy and is the home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other state.

Texas has the 10th largest economy in the world.

Texas exports more than any other state in the Union.

You may have "lived" in Texas for a while but the "tumbleweeds" and "third world" comments make you appear stupid AND ignorant. Get your facts straight. Apparently you have a real serious case of Foot and Mouth disease where Texas is concerned.

Yes, that right is reserved for Corporate Fascists only because America is the shining beacon of democracy and should not offer choices!

Just to clarify, the only business the pvt. sector does in the over 65 crowd is medicare supplements, and medicare advantage plans. No pvt insurer will sell anyone eligible for Medicare a tradition health ins. policy.

And that goes along nicely with your head in butt syndrome....Show me where I have bashed Texas other than jokingly in forums WITH members from Texas or otherwise I'll just figure you for a liar.

YES....I HAVE lived there when every rig was stacked in a laydown yard and you couldn't find work no matter HOW hard you tried AND tumbleweeds WERE blowing down the street....either you are to young to remember,so old you've forgotten or was to dumb to know the difference in the first place. One of the three applies.Study a bit so you don't look foolish all of the time.

"Tumbleweed blowing down the street". You're full of bullchips. Few native Texans have ever seen tumbleweeds, much less tumbleweeds blowing down a street in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, or Austin. (Oh wait,...maybe tumbleweeds are what causes traffic jams in those places). There are tumbleweeds in West Texas and the Panhandle,..but please spare us the symbolism suggested by your comments.

Texas has its societal warts just like other states, but the business climate is not the problem you describe. Here's some reading for you, since it quite evident that your opinions are drawn on old information and flawed personal observation. Enjoy reading the articles, and become informed. You'll be a better person for it.

It's peculiar that you refuse to recognize contemporary facts, but choose to post personal experiences that are no longer factual. Your personal experiences certainly are the opposite of reality.

When the "tumbleweeds" blew down the streets were the saloons open, cattle roaming the streets, and Comanches raiding outlying homesteads? Were the Texas Rangers still riding horses?

The state is far too far gone for that, but anything is possible.

The state may bring in more than it puts out tax wise, but it actually overall cost america significantly more with its serious social problems and unending stream of under-educated kids moving out of the state. I say this because I was one of them. Im not some starry eyed foolish liberal, bashing the state because its right wing extremism. I am and was a big fan of when conservative state democrats were at the helm of the state (post dixiecrats). Its just that the state seems to be facing backwards in every significant issue in america. Above that, it has the gall to threaten to leave when it does not get its way. No one wants the state.
You just stay in MN and what happens in TX has nothing to do with you. You don't want us? Well, fine. I LOVE hearing people say let them leave, we don't want or need them. Maybe YOU people need to really take a look at the economy in TX along with what TX has to offer and does before you wave us good bye.

Ignorance seems to be spreading as fast as swine flu. Sometimes I wish we could actually leave and just watch the clown show that has become our country from outside. I wonder why is it that so many don't have a problem with the government controlling every aspect of our daily lives? Why is the government controlling banking, car companies, health care, ect? Where and why have these become areas that the government should be involved?

I must be in the minority to actually feel the Bill of Rights and Constitution should still mean something. If you don't care about your rights, fine but don't be so surporised that some actually do still care about theirs.
