How will the administration address fat peoples' drain on the new healthcare system's funds?

Overall obesity-related health spending reaches $147 billion, double what it was nearly a decade ago....... obesity is a driving force behind the rise in health spending. .......About a third of adult Americans are obese, and the obesity rate rose 37 percent between 1998 and 2006.....
Unless you address obesity, you're never going to address rising health care costs.

Well,.. we tax tobacco and alcohol at higher rates to discourage their use, so why not tax unhealthy foods?
In fact, why not just tax fat people,....period. The vast majority of fat folks are that way because of lifestyle. Reward good behavior, tax bad behavior. With a new tax on one-third of the people, the healthcare program can be funded with few problems.

Get used to it. Govt provided healthcare will dictate what you eat. If you're good with kelp and seaweed, you should be in hog heaven (ha ha).

You are probably correct, Big Brother will have enough data on everyone that it will see what foods we buy and where we buy them. I can hardly wait until the little microchips are implanted so that Big Brother can track our every move.

Not always a bad thing. If it costs people so much to be fat, they might change their eating and exercise habits. Much faster and with less whining then limiting what people can eat.

Define "unhealthy". List which foods one should NEVER eat.

So basically, the OP says that now that we are going down the road of more government nanny-state government, with the proposed public option, it causes additional problems, so obviously we should just let government get even bigger.

Geez. Does the reliance on government ever end?

Remember when people lived in a society where they were free to do and be whoever they wanted, and ultimately they were responsible for the reprocussions and consequences of their actions? That was a better system.

Too fat, because of poor lifestyle choices, to get affordable healthcare? Sorry. That should be our response.

The op is quoting the Republican's blast on our changing healthcare landscape. This is pathetic and hypocritical coming from the republicans who espouse freedom etc. Because whether we like it or not if the government starts measuring our waistlines we are all in trouble. I'm angry at this not because I'm heavy or smoke, I'm neither, it's away to infringe on our liberties and the Republicans should know better. Pathetic.

Several decades ago a physician told me to avoid eating anything that was white, or a derivative thereof. No sugars, flour, cream gravies, milk, butter, cheese, lard, etc., etc., etc...

If you give it some thought, it makes sense.
