In Canada, the various levels of government pay for about 71% of Canadians' health care costs
Quote:
Canada's healthcare spending is expected to reach $171.9 billion, or $5,170 per person, in 2008. Health expenditures are expected to be 10.7% of the gross domestic product.

About 30% of Canadians' health care is paid for through the private sector. This mostly goes towards services not covered or only partially covered by Medicare, such as prescription drugs, dentistry and optometry. Some 65% of Canadians have some form of supplementary private health insurance; many of them receive it through their employers
Is that translated into "someone other than me will pay for it" ?
Right for the poor and very old costs exceed revenue. Not too dissimilar to today's insured. The difference is in aggregate we save 30% and everyone is covered.
Don't forget that 65% of Canadians also buy private health insurance..
And the gov. system does NOT cover such things as prescription drugs, dentistry and optometry....
If we can trust that we can duplicate even that cost, you would save a couple of thousand as long as you don't need the family plan.
You could probably do that if you had a choice now and aren't of an age where pregnancy could occur.
But, you do NOT KNOW, is what you might have to /want to spend on a supplement plan to get as good coverage, as we on Medicare have to do.
That would bring you right back to what you spend now.

You keep confusing per capita costs with insurance premiums. The Canadian system costs 30% less than the US system. How those costs are distributed is a separate topic.
Quite interesting that the much touted Canadian system only pays for 70% of the people...that is a large group not being covered...more than here.
And lets not forget that so many Canadians have private health insurance on top of what they pay for the gov. run system....
