It's still a lot more "live and let live" than most states on that issue. Your state of Florida is so anti-gay that they not only banned same-sex marriage, they banned anything that could be considered equivalent to it, like civil unions.

Not where I am at

I would say that Key West is more gay friendly than anywhere in California. Pretty much the same with Ft lauderdale although I agree that Florida is not friendly as a whole.

It is too bad, because this is one of the few social issues i agree with the libs on

Wrong, it was the Knights of Columbus that helped pass Prop 8.

Do you live in CA? I do. The LDS church had a big stake in that election and spent a fortune. And the issue was misdirected from gay marriage to parential rights in public schools. Talk about a spin! People didn't even know the issue they were voting on. I know. I talked to many street corner sign holders.

Knights of Columbus contributes $1 million to Prop 8 campaign

Wish more Republicans in our state and the rest of our country would adopt the views of some Libertarians that don't give a crap about sexual orientation.
I thought it was the Mormons..........

What were the polling results or public vote? I don't live in CA but I did hear something about the LDS being involved

I think Virginia takes the cake. They won't even recognize private contracts drawn up between two people of the same sex that confer any rights that married heterosexuals get.
So all this BS conservatives talk up about a same-sex couple getting a lawyer and getting papers drawn up....it will be invalid in VA.

Absolutely. According to CNN's exit poll, this is the breakdown of who voted to eliminate same-sex marriage rights in California:

Republicans 82%
Independents 46%
Democrats 36%
I guess you are unable to decipher an exit poll.

Democrat (42%)
Republican (29%)
Independent (28%)

Of the 42% of dems, 36% voted yes, of the 29% of republicans, 82% voted yes, of the 28% of Indies, 46% voted yes.

Sorry, democrats, indies, blacks and hispanics enabled this to pass.

What is your source on that 67% figure? I'm not sure what you're talking about.

I wouldn't hold up California as a model for the country. What a disfunctional place.
