and in this larger image, you can see that the sides of the mall are very sparsely filled past 4th street, not really any more crowded than they usually would be on a saturday. it gets crowded back by the washington monument, but that's another event.
Excellent photo. That's it, right there, everyone. The telephoto lens foreshortens the distance to the Black Family Reunion event tents near the Monument, but the photo accurately captures the extent of the 912 rally.

Off to the right of the photo, crowds were not gathered among the trees of the lawn, most likely because the view to the speakers would be obstructed. I attached a photo earlier showing the empty spaces on the northwest Capitol lawn - taken at approximately 1:15pm

Eventually, people had to leave the Mall to go home. Once the crowd lessened, there were plenty of spaces. I was already on a bus by 3:30pm.

I love visiting Washington DC. The people, who live and work (non-politicians) there, are very friendly and helpful.

I'll be back and I'll make sure I bring a nice crowd to enjoy it all.

it's an unofficial estimate, but it's from a fire department spokesperson. sanrene has mentioned another estimate from the fire department that differs only slightly.
A DC FD spokesman said "exceeds 75,000".

Except for the fact I posted pics showing what it looked like - after the crowd filled it in.

See post #370.

Along with the Park Service schematic.

yeah, an estimate of up to 70,000 and an estimate of "exceeds 75,000" are pretty similar estimates.

i'm not sure why you keep citing that quote - do you really think that supports your assertion that it was over 200,000?

The reports on the ground of "hundreds of thousands", the pics, the video, the schematic all support the estimate of hundreds of thousands.
