His program-length "Special Comment" show tonight was extraordinarily moving. By the time he got to the story about his childhood friend, Mike, whose daughter has been in the ICU for the past three weeks, suffering from Lyme disease, and who now has to sell his farm to pay for her continued care, I couldn't hold back the tears. As a nation, we ought to be ashamed of ourselves that we allow this to happen. If there is a higher being, may they bless Keith Olbermann for how hard he's fighting for all of us to be on an equal footing regarding the value of our very lives.
If Olbermann feels so freaking bad about his childhood friend than why not fork over some of his own $7.5 million salary to his friend???
But no, like a standard-issue phony limousine liberal he would prefer to force the rest of us to pay for other people's health care.
Fear makes people support the war. The fearmongering has people quaking in their boots that Bin Laden and his ilk have their sights set on us, which is indeed a remote possibility.
The distinct possibility facing us right now that people may be financially devastated by a serious illness, or that our children are getting a less than desirable public education for some peculiar reason does not inspire the same ferocity.
+1000 See, the problem as I see it is that as long as it is somebody else's family members dying or losing their home, who cares, right? Hey, it's not my problem. This pervasive attitude is destroying America. America is only as strong as her citizens. How can we claim to be "the best country on earth" when many of our citizens go without decent health care. Why are we the only progressive democracy without universal heath care. Isn't a health body a funamental right. I don't understand how we can funnel trillions of dollars into our millitary to protect our citizens but then deny these same citizens the right to health care? My 64 yr old mother, who has taught high school for 40yrs, CANNOT retire because as soon as she retires, she loses her heath care. Is this fair? I worked for an insurance co. and saw MANY elderly ppl working at menial jobs solely so they could get insurance, medicare isn't enough, now you even need supplimental insurance. This country MUST change! I just don't see what is so heinous about a public OPTION? No one will be forced to get it, you can keep private insurance if you want. Until ppl realize this is not just someone else's problem or fault, that this happens every day to normal, hard working Americans, things will never be any different and the suffering will continue.
I'd rather pay for my own health care and own doctor in accordance with my own lifestyle. I don't want to have to contribute to some piggy bank in which high risk smokers or fat people are covered. They can pay for themselves. Let responsible taxpayers manage their own money and lives. But no, like a standard-issue phony limousine liberal he would prefer to force the rest of us to pay for other people's health care.
That's the spirit, the American way! Why give a rat's azz about anyone else when you're good, right? Let us know how that works for you when you get involved in a car accident, or develop a chronic illness, and you're "own health care" doesn't cover the bills.

Exactly. In America you are free to succeed, but also free to fail. This mobility is what has made the US the most powerful and dynamic economy in the world by far.
The opposite is why socialist nanny states are stagnant, tired, and seemingly always on the verge of bankruptcy or collapse.
Wow....I can't believe the guy wouldn't be more generous and help out his friend when he has been so blessed. I do what I can and government takes a big chunk for taxes...on my behalf I guess.
I only wish I could help people on the same scale that Keith could, if he chose to. He chooses instead for my income and benefits to be taxed more and my choices to be fewer so his friend won't have to sell his family farm. Oh wait...this legislation will not be effective for 3 more years and the farm will already be gone...my confiscated taxes won't help at all by then....but Keith could help NOW.
Even if he kept $2M a year for himself (I think that's still affords a generous lifestyle) how many people could he buy insurance for with the remaining $5.5M...??? I bet he could buy the farm outright and give it as an early Christmas gift to his friend or just pay the medical bills.

A close friend of mine's mother had a stroke 8 months ago. She was confined to bed for all of that time. A month ago she had a heart attack followed by pneumonia. She passed a few weeks ago.
Her husband lost his business several years ago and was jobless. Medicare covered everything of what was a very costly illness.
My parents are on medicare. No compliants!
