The right was cheering because they were against Barack Obama campaigning for the olympics in chicago. It was more about Obamas efforts being fruitless rather then America not getting the games.
Personally, as a Republican and definately NOT an avid Obama supporter, I was quite happy that HIS EFFORTS were fruitless, but a little dissapointed America lost the opportunity to host the olympics that year. I am an American first and a Republican Second. I would NEVER let my anti-Obama sentiment be misconstrued for anti-America sentiment, which the Right did upon the news of the olympics going to Rio.
