Regardless of your affiliation, may I present this blast from the past:

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains

And the women come out to cut up what remains

Just roll to your rifle and blow out yer brains

And go to your gawd like a soldier

You'd think we'd have learned by now... especially considering the Soviet Unions recent experience.

Those photos of the Twin Towers are bull****. That's not why we're in Afpak or Iraq. 9/11 was planned by a guy in the Philippines and executed by 15 Saudi nationals. If we want to invade a country that supports terrorism, Saudi Arabia is #1 on the list. And those ****ers got a free ride when the rest of the US air transportation system was shut down and our government flew out 2 planeloads. Oops. Better blame the Iranians.

And this additional gem from Kipling, who knew a little of Afghanistan and the mores and character of the inhabitants:

It is not wise for the Christian white
to hustle the Asian brown
for the Christian riles
and the Asian smiles
and wears the Christian down

At the end of the fight
lies a tombstone white
with the name of the late deceased;

And the epitaph drear
that a fool lies here
who tried to hustle the East.

America, with history's most powerful air, armor and naval forces, has been fighting against these illiterate dwellers in mud huts for 8 years. And now we have some new strategy that will allow us to prevail? What have we been doing in the last 8 years? Old time snake oil salesmen used the same pitch. The only thing I see on the horizon is, just like Iraq, paying all those people we gave guns to so they won't use them against us. I can think of better uses for American tax dollars than bribing some whacked out religious nuts.

If Obama sends more guns, we may not get the results we hope for, but we sure will get the bill.

That is EXACTLY why we intially didn't invade Afghan like the Russians did but, with our forces. We sent over CIA and a small number of special forces to train and help the tribal lords to fight the Taliban and kick them out of Afghan. Now with all this instability (and the nukes in Pakistan) and their increasingly sucessful efforts to re-organize and enroll new fighters, we're in (how do the libs say it) a debacle....we need to send in more troops for a surge but, that puts us in the situation the Russian's had been in by occupying Afghan (which we sucessfully avoided initially).

Just because 15 Saudi nationals executed 911, it doesn't mean they were supported by Saudi Arabia but, there was that fear that something could happen to members of the Saudi Royal family or he Bin Laden family that were here in America (many attending school), if some how people jumped to the wrong conclusions (hint)....which could have escualated an already terrible event into an even worse one. I think the Bin Laden family has something like 800 members. Osama was raised by his mother and step-father and all the siblings he grew up with were half brothers and sisters fathered by his step-father.
