Edited to add: Oh yeah, Car Talk. Just listened to Frick or Frack (I can't keep them straight...) talking about mechanic related to the Toyota problem.
Click and Clack Me and my boyfriend listen to podcasts all the time from them.

I think it's funny that if there is a program that is intelligent, it's automatically considered 'elite'. I like my news succinct, to the point and yes, sometimes described using $5 words Call me an elitist limousine liberal all you want...although, I prefer private jet liberal

I enjoy listening to NPR from time to time, but I think all funding should be voluntary. Some of the segments are pretty good; others aren't so good. It offers it's fair share of BS...just slightly more sophisticated BS.

As far as debate goes, BBC World news sometimes does a segment where they'll have two people with opposing views argue with one another on an issue, but in a more civil, less heated way where each side has time to speak, rebut, etc. I enjoy those segments and have learned a little about issues affecting people in other parts of the world.

Have more biased poll choices ever been asked? NPR is terrific! Most hosts lean liberal, but interviews are conducted in a way that all sides of an issue are heard, as expressed by their proponents, except in cases where proponents refuse to participate. How this can be seen as biased is beyond me.

What this country needs is the abolition of the kind of "reporting" that is done on Fox! Concealing rather than revealing facts is not honest reporting!

It appears that some folks have grown so accustomed to the shrieking, opinionating, half baked theories type of shows that intelligent fact based reporting and interviews conducted with courtesy actually disturbs them.

I believe all their money comes from donations, fund drives things like that. I would whither away if I couldn't listen to NPR, I love their programming & I always have it on in the morning, on the way home & usually at work too. NPR does not lean liberal or conservative, they report the news as is & then move onto their scheduled programming. I don't see how anyone could have a problem w/NPR or PBS. And on that note, NO I would NEVER want NPR to turn into that crap talk radio type of programming that is very popular w/neanderthals.

LOL, did NPR do something personally against you? How weird to be so argumentative about a station that is politically unbiased & totally neutral. Have you ever actually listened to NPR? Try it sometimes, you might find youself enjoying it & maybe even learning something. And it appears that you haven't listened at all to what others on here have said about the funding for NPR.

I've started listening to NPR over the last few months. They often present both conservative and liberal points of view. The biggest bone I see them throw to liberals is that while the reporters bring up both sides of an issue, the person they interview and who's opinions they play primarily are on the liberal side of the issue. The positive side is that they go into a bit more depth with their stories than other stations I have listened to.

My biggest b***h about them is their terrible selection of music. Leave the music segments out and keep with the stories and news reports.

From NPR's Annual Reports. etc.

On average, public radio stations (including NPR Member stations) receive the largest percentage of their annual operating revenue (32.1%) from listener support. For FY08, the most recent data available, the average station's revenues came from the following sources:

32.1% from listeners in the form of pledges, memberships, and other donations
21.1% from businesses via corporate underwriting
10.1% from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which is federally funded
13.6% from licensee support (including colleges and universities)
9.6% from foundations and major gifts
5.8% from federal, state, and local governments
7.6% from all other sources.
