Reported by Bloomberg News:

Dead man, with no I-D, found dead in the nose-landing-gear compartment of a Delta Airlines flight from JFK to Tokyo.

Obviously, the man got in that compartment while the plane was at JFK airport in NYC. Waiting for details to emerge.

Obvious questions are:
- WHAT was his intent?
- HOW did this guy get past "security" to get onto the tarmac and into the plane.
- Don't pilots walk around and visually inspected their aircraft before boarding their plane.

CNN now has a report on the incident.

This article points out that it is NOT possible to enter the wheel well from the passenger compartment.

The dead man was not carrying a passport or personal belongings, airport police said. The man was of dark complexion and dressed in blue jeans and a red and dark blue long-sleeved shirt, police told CNN.
Police said he possibly froze to death and suffered a shortage of oxygen at high altitude, but did not provide a definite cause of death pending an autopsy.
Every X number of years I've heard stories like this out of JFK. Never thought it to be terrorists in the past. They're stowaways who fail to realize that there's no heat and very thin O2 at transcontinental and transoceanic altitudes.

The Al Queda types like to make a big splash to disrupt Americans on special days, like the Christmas day attempt by the underpants bomber to take down a Delta plane. Here we have another incident that would have made a big splash on Super Bowl Sunday. I have to wonder about a terror attempt. Even if it wasn't a terror scheme, the questions remain.

People end up doing that every once and awhile, I remember at least 2 other cases recently where people were desperate to get somewhere. The unfortunate part is there is no room in there for a human to survive without being crushed. It's pretty much a Darwin Award moment.

It might be one of these awful stories -- Stowaway found dead in wheel well of plane (http://www.examiner.com/a-838113~Stowaway_found_dead_in_wheel_well_of_plane. html - broken link)

Can you imagine!!!!
