They didn't start the thread to stimulate conversation. They did it to start a fire which they can now sit back and enjoy watching until it eventually burns out, at which point they will start a new one.
We live in a very large country. There are plenty of people who voted for President Obama because of reasons that have nothing to do with race. There are plenty who voted for him because of his race. There are people who didn't vote for him for reasons that have nothing to do with race. And finally, there are people who did not vote for him because of his race.
One thing everyone has in common is that they do not have to explain their vote to anyone. It's what makes this country great, and it's also what renders threads like this one useless from the very start.
