I have found someone to sponsor me for volunteering to do community service. $5 per hr is plenty for me.
This touches on the problem that the long-tern unemployed have. They loos their job skills and work habits. (I am part of they) Also the long term unemployed need more money. So what I was thinking was that you could have a program that took over when the normal unemployment insurance ran out that paid people to do community service. The participants would go to a temp agency get signed up and turn in community serves hrs. for pay. The rate of pay would be minimum wage to a maximum of 20 hrs. a week.
This I think would be better than what we have now.

I think all the posters on here who are for more government action in our lives and those that want indefinate UI and those that want higher minimum wage and those that want a "livable" wage should step up to the plate and give you $5 an hour. If each one did you would be much better off.

What kind of tasks will you be performing?
I guess they have a similar program in Germany, but it is exploited by employers to replace regular employees by low-wage, sponsored ones doing the same jobs.
I know it will fill in some areas on your job history.
It is always easier to get a job when you have a job. Why?? Because the employer can call someone and ask about you NOW!!!
I think you have a great plan!!!
My best....
Thanks

I will be doing community crevice, volunteer work. As far as a national program if the number of people that are on SSI is over 50% of the local population then you could use the labor in for profit business. Less than that and you can't.
Where I have been volunteering is at welfare square. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=DJIA+priced+in+gold+2010&ie=UTF8&hq=D JIA+priced&hnear=Salt+Lake+City,+UT&ll=40.75302,-111.91265&spn=0.002991,0.003487&t=h&z=18 Here is a Google maps pix of welfare square. This is the last vestiges of the most successful experiment in socialism ever. What the Mormon's do is they Fast one day a month. They take the money saved and donate it. They also volunteer their time to run the industries. About 95% of the labor to run the place is done by volunteer labor. If you want food you go ask the bishop for food he gives you a food order but before you can go pick it up you have to go volunteer. (One day I saw a person down their that was in a wheal chair. What he was doing as his job was pushing the button on the box compactor. He couldn't pick up the boxes so he asked people walking past to do that. That day had the smallest pile of boxes by the machine ever. Not one box all day. He did a good job) They believe in working for food.
This is by far the most efficient welfare system ever devised.
Capitalism. Unemployment insurance is the capitalist way of handling economic downturns. You pay in when tines are good and draw out when the do do hits the fan. (This is collectively not individually) The socialist way is to give everyone work to do. Even make work. This is probably better for everyone long term. But doing it in a way that doesn't mean communism. Getting paid for doing community service. That is what I came up with.

Capitalism and unemployment insurance? The capitalist way is that you save for a rainy day and if you don't have money it's tough luck for you. You need to go read up on the great depression and the true capitalist way of handling unemployment.
It is good to be back working. Even if it is for free.
